Hello,
I've searched the archives and couldn't find this topic. Is the reissue C64 Fireglo more like the Fireglo of the 60's, with the deeper reds, or is it the same Fireglo of today's 4003's? I love the old 60's tone of this color, and I understand a great deal is the aging effect of the actual paints and coatings. I am very interested in purchasing one, and this may help my decision.

Fireglo varies through the years ... part of it is who is operating the spray gun ... part of it is fading ... part of it is yellowing of the gloss coat ...

I've seen old 60's basses with lite fireglo and 90's basses with dark fireglo ...

usually older fireglo goes deeper into the center and the current fireglo seems to be more of an edge treatment ...

I just played a c64 a couple days ago ... and I didn't really pay attention to the fireglo that much ... I was more concerned with neck profile and tone and resonance ...

Thanks, Jeff, for the informative reply. Of the V63's and the C64's I've seen, the color seems to be deeper red than the current Fireglo. It almost seems more standard to have the deeper color on these reissues. For this instance, I hope it is true, as I love the look of the old Fireglos without binding.

I read the post about your playing of the C64, and I like the fact that the headstock looks better in person. I really don't mind it at all, and I like the entire package including the horseshoe and toaster, no binding, and the dot neck. It is nice, too, that it is still a current run, allowing me to purchase one new, with all paperwork, in mint condition, etc.

According to JH, the color of FG has changed very little over the years. Jeff is right, it depends on who applied the spray and how much the clear coat has yellowed. I have FGs spanning 4 decades. When I put them side by side it is clear that they are pretty much the same. This picture does not properly reproduce the colors.
