Rickenbacker Forum Has 50,000th Visit Today
Re: Rickenbacker Forum Has 50,000th Visit Today
Well, after wading down through the inane postings to very old threads, I'm not happy about it either.

I still say 30 posts is too lenient. Look at what that guy did in one day!winston wrote:This situation underscores at least one of the reasons that we put the 30 post rule in place. It gives us a sense of the what the individual is all about in the early days of their membership. I could of course quite easily delete some of the least sensible posts, but perhaps this is a better lesson overall.
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS!

I agree. I think it should be 30 posts AND 30 days. That would discourage people like this. Dredging up 8 year old threads and saying "Happy Birthday!" on 9 or 10 old birthday threads is lame and annoying.rickenbrother wrote: I still say 30 posts is too lenient. Great Ramp In My Opinion.

Tbh, 30 posts + 30 days means they can simply reply to 30 birthday threads, one every day.
Better would be to have a kind of review procedure, before their settings are manually changed for access to the buying/selling section.
I've seen forums where some parts are only accessible if all mods agreed the person had made a positive contribution to the forum.

NOT really related to this issue, but kind of......
How about a NOOBIE WELCOME PAGE? Something like NEW MEMBERS START HERE kind of thread?....ALL NEW MEMBERS START in ONE PLACE for all to see. I don't think it will solve this problem, but I'd like to have one place to see/welcome the noobs.
Right now, they scatter all over the forum and can go un-detected or WORSE, feel UN-WELCOME.
I know I miss a lot of new members because they land in sections I don't usually frequent.
Again, not that it cures the problem, but just kind of brought this idea to the table.

Lovely idea - until they have 1 post they can only post/start thread in this new welcome section, where they have to introduce themselves.
Seen some forums do that, too... some newbies feel unwelcome because of that as well, but most just start PMing admin to ask why they can't post, though!

Thanks for the suggestions on how to handle someone who abuses the process everyone, but we have elected to stay the course. We have options available to us should this sort of thing occur again and rest assured we will employ them.
For greater certainty, we watched this development unfold and it was our choice to leave this particular situation alone and let the membership deal with it. You all did a fine job of voicing your displeasure in a positive manner.

Thanks Brian, you guys do a great job already and I'm sure you will not let it become a recurring problem. I think when people do this, they aren't seeing the forest for the trees... it's not as if the marketplace is a casino or a place where you can get Ric's below retail on a daily basis.winston wrote:Thanks for the suggestions on how to handle someone who abuses the process everyone, but we have elected to stay the course. It might be nice if there was some way to make it so that the first time a new user logs in, they would be taken to some sort of intro page that had some general guidelines, etc. with pointers to the rules & FAQ's.
For the most part, I don't really think there's much abuse (that I've seen anyway), and I'm sure that, if there were a bunch of people running up their post count like this guy did, our great moderators would put a stop to it fairly quickly.
Thanks to all the moderators for all the work you do! You guys do a great job!

Thanks Guys. From my vantage point, it appears we all do our best to keep the discussion flowing in a positive and interesting manner.
