4003 MB and extreme cold

I just purchased a new 4003 Montezuma Brown from Mike Parks !!!! I'm sooooo psyched. Good deal too, I think. $1195 including vintage case. However, I've asked him to not ship it until it gets warmer. I'm in North Dakota and the temps are going into the negative teens this week. He suggested waiting until it's in the 20's or 30's. I'm inclined to agree with him. The only problem is, that might not be until March !!!!! lol. There's no way I want to take a chance with finish problems. I'm aware of the 48 hr waiting rule but, this is really extreme cold. Damn, have to wait. Oh well, I LOVE the MB. Can't believe I'm finally getting another RIC. As Tom Petty said, "The waiting is the hardest part". I'll be sure to post pics when it finally arrives.

Wow Scott!! There's no way I could wait that long....
I'd rather have it shipped and then let it sit in my house for a few days, let it gradually warm up...
I wonder what kind of effect putting those little chemical handwarmers that hunters use in the case would have on the bass?.....I know, dumb question, but am I the only one who's wondered about this?? They're good for 48 hours or so, right???

Scott, I think if you waited at least 48 hrs before unpacking the bass from the box and case, it should be fine. You'll have a greater chance of causing the the finish to checker by going to a gig or rehearsal on cold nights and not giving the bass enough time to slowly warm up before removing it from it's case.

Congrats Scott! I just went through the same dilemma as you in December with my Monty Brown.
The temps where no where near negative teens, but it was around 10 and the bass sat in the UPS truck all weekend. I was freaking out, but I took the advise from all the friendly folks here and left the bass in the cardboard box until it warmed up and it was fine. I'm like Chris and couldn't wait that long. I only waited for 24 hrs. Hell, my wife wants me to quit smoking, I can't even wait 48hrs to leave a guitar set in the case. I'm hopelessly doomed. Anyway,
I would have it delivered to your house and than go through the agonizing pain of waiting.

Well, I guess I spoke too soon as I just got an email from Mike Parks saying he made a mistake and the 4003MB was actually on layaway and sold. He really should update his website when an item is sold. This after 2 days of emails discussing pricing, shipping, to actually ordering. It's disappointing. Oh well, there will be others.

Believe me, if I didn't have to be in ND I wouldn't. Unfortunately the Air Force says different
. Been here 3 years now. The cold sucks!!! Not to mention the lack of ANY decent music stores. The ones here have you by the gonads as far as pricing for anything. They charge pretty much full retail because they can. There's no competition. Except online. Thank god for the internet.

I saw that. He's asking more than Mike but, I may go that route anyway. Thanks for the tip. Mike was real apologetic and I know he's a good and honest dealer. I don't mean to bash him by any means.

I just talked to Chris at POTR and he hooked me up with the last 4003MB he had in stock. Vintage case. Great guy. I'm having him hold to ship it on Friday because of the cold hitting here. Phew. Glad he had one. Should be here next Thursday. I'll post pics over the weekend. Can't wait!!!
On another subject, I'm working on putting together an old Peavey Patriot bass. The jack plate scratches and cuts out when the cord is moved up or down. But is fine when left alone. The solder looks ok. Could the jack just be bad? It's a 20 yr old bass. I rescued it from a friend. It's actually a nice little bass. A fun project. Any ideas?? I'm not great with electronics but want to learn more.
