The fretboard looks a little dark too, like some copies, but this may be due to the photography.

I think so, the headstock doesn't look right, neither does the pickguard even though he says it's a Ric and has been replaced.

Where does the skunkstripe disappear to, from the headstock? = Set Neck/Bolt On = Fake.
Why doesn't the pickguard vear into the body edge at the bottom right of the body? = Fake.
What's the deal with the bridge pickup surround? Upside down!

Chris I think you're right, looks fake to me. I've never seen a set-neck 4001 from that period, although some were made in the late 70's I believe. The inlay material is non-standard as well....

This is another instance where the seller, I believe, knows it is not right. He says Rics sell all the time for $550 on ebay, When, and what condition, and on what ebay? He also acts like he knows virtually nothing about a Ric, yet sure says a lot of things that generally only a Ric fan would know. Also, he's owned a few, but claims he knows little. Go figure.
He probably put this on with the low BIN, knowing it would sell fast, just under the radar of the Ric police.

Hey, Bob.
Well, I sure would hate seeing anyone here get ripped-off. $600.00 for a 4001 copy... I'm still not over it.
