Here's another fake being passed off as the genuine article.

So it has "very light wear," yet the stereo jack had rusted out, the toggle switch had broken, and the bridge pickup needed replacement because it was weak. It sounds like maybe RickenFaker quality isn't quite up to the genuine article.

Lets take a survey...What percentage of these guys do you think know they are selling a fake?

My call: 80%

if he didn't know then why did he start out with a 99 cent bid???

clues to spot this as a faker ... the case ... the walnut stripe is too wide ... the fretboard is too dark ... the dots by the volume knobs ... and the wood grain doesn't look like a 4001 mapleglo to me ... Ric usually uses a higher grade of maple for mapleglo basses ...

I'd say 95% know they're selling a fake

He seems to think he had a real Ric 4001 ... after I told him it was a fake he pulled the auction ...

Is this the latest faker? Strange woodgrain on the upper half...no serial# on jackplate...smooth pup wire channel rout.

Three things stand out to me.
1) The position of the strap button on the upper horn is consistent with a copy. If, as the text states, the strap buttons are Rick type Straplocks then it should be closer to the tip of the horn.

2) The wood grain is a bit odd though wood is highly variable.

3) The stripe appears to be a bit too wide.

4) The wire route from the neck pickup to the cavity is WAAAAY to clean to be an early to mid 70's Rick. Every one that I have seen that was made prior to '79 has a series of slightly overlapping forstner bit holes there. My '80 has a smooth route as did a '79 JG I owned years ago.

....attic joists! LOL :-)

Hello! My name is...FAKER.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4713&item=3778732914&rd=1

Please be fooled by my poor photography and spend your hard earned dollars on my swindling, thieving ways. Really...I mean...I need the money to feed my heroin addiction. I just sold my brother's skis, my Dad's plasma screen television, and some of my mother's jewelry but...well, you know how addictions are. Its time for me to step out and con somebody I'm not related to out of a few bucks. So what do you say? Do we have a deal then?
