Raspberries & Rics in Chicago

I saw the Raspberries reunion here at the House of Blues Saturday in Chi. Wally used a Mapleglo 360/12 for about 1/4 - 1/3 of the show. Dave used a 4001 or 4003 for about the last 1/4 of the show. The 4001 made a big difference over the P-bass he was using for most the show. It cut through much better & you could hear the lines well. There was also a Fireglo 360/12 that belonged to the backup guitarist to be used as a spare for Wally if needed. I was fortunate to chat with them after the show. Wally loves the 12 and says it's a '65 or '67 - he wasn't sure which.
The show was superb. Hopfully they'll tour nationally.

Was Eric Carmen with them? My favorite song was Tonight which I just put on, really rocks.

Man, you can't touch the 3rd & 4th Raspberries records...damn near flawless.

Yes, Eric was with them. It was all 4 of the original members augmented by 4 more singers/instrumentalists.

Too bad there's not one Rick in sight on the album inner shots, though...

Always one of my favorites.
I'm reading "Marathon Man" about Eric and the Raspberries.
It is good. Has all the story, some of it ain't so pretty.
Wally says Eric hated the sound of Wally's Flying V.

Wally's best sounding 6 string was the bottom guitar of his Gibson Double neck, as I've heard. Now he suposedly luv's his Parker FLY...definitely not the best looking guitar out on the market, but it's made of Composite and is immune to humidty and temp. Ofcourse Wally's '67 MapleGlo 360-12 (the I Wanna Be with U-RiC) is the real deal. I always thought that his V was more for stage, rather than studio.

You guys are making me feel old. When they played my junior high sock hop (Mentor Shore) they were the Mods, then the Choir, then a few personnel changes the Raspberries.

There's a video of them on Youtube playing "go all the way" on the Mike Douglas Show (1974). Bass players got a 4001 and Eric's got a white Gibson that was later sold to Joan Jett.

One of my favorite Raspberries songs was always "I'm A Rocker" from the album Side 3. That song really rocks out.

I checked that out, Mark. Seeing as they were lip synching the drummer looks bored to tears. There's a live version of them playing it, too, from '74.
The second song here has perhaps the most unique tone of any 12 Rick number I've heard (not so clean(:

I'm a Rocker is in the same vein as "Anything that's Rock 'n Roll" from Tom Petty's first lp, always a good topic, how much one who plays it likes it.
