I think I've just deafened someone...

Well, I'm here at university.. chilling, watching some TV, and I decided to turn in at about 1.30am.
The guy nextdoor has a reputation for being a noisy b*stard, cocky - and just downright rude.
Being the kind guy I am I decided on giving him a good hour to finish off his film, (i'm no killjoy.)
But it wasn't to be, it approached 3am, and still he had no intention of shutting up.
I went round and banged on his door - he completely ignored me. I did it again - louder... stil, he ignored me.
I'd reached the end of my tether. I went back to my room and I wired up one of my Marshall Super Bass 100s with an Ashdownn 1x15 and an Ashdown 4x8.
I positioned the cabs wall-facing, with approximately 1cm clearance between the front face of the cab and the bare brickwork of the wall...
... I hit everything to full...
...I picked up my trusty 4001 and proceeded to play YYZ from start to finish, again and again and again, I had earplugs in.
The EQ was massively, massively high on my old SVT preamp, so every struck string, every fret transit sounded like nails in a blender - Ric style.
Within 20 seconds the guy's door flung open and he dived out of his room, fingers in ears - going "Arghhhh!"
I went ahead and warned him that I'd do it again, on the hour, every hour if he didn't change his ways.
I've not heard a peep since.
Fight fire with fire? Try it. Sometimes it works. With help from a Ric.
Now I'm going to bed.

I did something like that a long time ago ... some guys below me in an apartment played loud music on the stereo ... they refused to be reasonable ... so I put a bass cab on the floor face down detuned and turned up the bass ... I think I rattled his teeth ...

My thing when I was younger was to use the stereo capabilities of the 4001. I had a Sunn SPL cabinet that allowed me to plug a Fender Bassman head using effects like distortion and echo into a 10" speaker while my Sunn Concert Bass went clean into an 18" speaker. I'd hook up my wireless, then walk down the block playing the thing.I wasn't getting even with anyone, but it sure was fun.
Yes,the Rickenbacker bass guitar. There is no substitute.

A long time ago, I had a down stairs neighbor that I was friendly with. He knew I was a bass player and that I like excellent bass response from my home stereo speakers. I had Cerwin Vega stereo speakers, he had some obscure brand X that I can't remember the name of. He would tell me that his stereo speakers had better bass response than mine...I didn't think so!
So, one day when he knew I was home, he decided to break my chops and turned up his stereo extremely loud, apparently with his bass eq maxed out.
At the time I had a Peavey Mark 4 head with a Peavey 1810 cabinet. That cab had an 18" speaker on the bottom and two 10" speakers on the top.
I laid the cab face down on the floor, maxed out everything on the head, armed myself with my 4001 and wailed on that bass like a redheaded stepchild.
Not two minutes later, my neighbor was pounding on my door to ask me to please stop, since stuff was shaking right off his shelves, paint came off his ceiling and that no matter how, I had the best bass response! Hey, he asked for it!!

I used to leave my SVT's right in my living room back in the 70's and one of my friends imbibed a bit too much one night and passed out on my couch. The next morning I rolled one of the ecabs right up next to the couch, turned on the head let it warm up with the volume way up about two feet from his head. I turned the volume control up on my bass and the noise was enough to wake him up, was he lucky! haha! You should have seen the look on his face though when he saw that big cab inches from his head already to go.

LOL... I did the same thing some 20 years ago, the family in the floor right under me used to wake up early every Saturday morning and raise hell (the weekends here are Friday-Saturday, so think Sunday morning like 6:30am), so one morning I decided, you want noise, I'll give you noise. My weapons then were a Peavey T40 (go ahead, laugh. If it didn't weigh a ton it'd be a classic) and a Fender Bassman 135 tube head with the matching 2x15" cab. I can't recall the repertoire.
Needless to say, next Saturday not a squeak was heard until at least 10am.

Haha! Interesting that some of us should share a similar experience in that 'department'.
I won't bother you with the details on mine, just the essentials:
The time: late 1990
The place: my apartment
The target: next door neighbour with a penchant for listening to Supertramp at unreasonably loud levels on Sunday mornings
My weapon/repertoire: February 1976 4001 plugged into formidable, domestically-built amp & speaker cab setup (which I sold in 94)/Ted Nugent's 'Take Me Away' on the stereo.
The result: peace and quiet ever since.

"Assault with a deadly Rick"
"Carrying a concealed Rick"
"Unlawful discharge of a Rick"
Next thing you know we'll be watching the news and a SWAT team will pull up with a van load of various Ricks and Amps.
And then RIC will come out with a SWAT team limited edition.
.......Heh,, going off the deep end here, late gig last night, not much sleep.

Likewise, bad neighbours, constantly barking dog through adjoining wall. Polite requests for it to be stopped were completely ignored. Out came the amp when I had had enough one day. Like Henny it was cranked to max and 1" from the wall and I give it my best Peaches by the Stranglers for a good 10 mins. Nothing was said by them. The dog kept barking so I went round to see him again. I made the point nicely about his dog barking. And his reply "well you play your guitar really loud dont you?" How do you win with a guy like that ?
Sergio, Did email you but my email isnt working. I dont seem to be able to send or receive.

I played trumpet when I was a kid (Ric of course) and went in to my parents bedroom at about 7 am on a Sunday morning with my trumpet, stood at the foot of the bed and got one note of reveille out of it, my father was not too pleased. I thought he'd be nostalgic for his army days.

I had a noisy neighbor in the apartment downstairs from me. He liked to play techno at ear-blazing levels all hours of the night. All I could hear was thump-thump-thump all night long, so I put my 4 x 10 cab against the floor and blasted him full volume...
A 10 foot section of his plaster ceiling came crashing down on him. Heh heh. Never had a problem again.

When I was young I was usually the noisy one hence had this same thing happen to me once. I shared an apartment with one of my sisters and we used to have a lot of late night parties on the weekends with the stereo blasting until 2-3 in the morning. My upstair neghbor was a ham operator but never complained but wasn't real friendly either. One day I saw him walk in with a guitar amp and a small bullhorn, I was mildly curious but didn't really think too much about it because of his hobbies (which I share although I'm not a ham) The next weekend we were having one of our usual parties and at about 3 am we heard this wierd loud elevator music like muzak coming out of the common air duct for cold air return. We looked at each other and said what the %%$& is that? I went upstairs to see what was up and he had this thing rigged up with the bullhorn blasting the muzak into the air vent.

Hey Ilan,
Don't apologize for the T-40. They're an incredible bass, and inexpensive. I have one and came to meet the originator and designer of that guitar and bass line, Peavey's first. Chip Todd. He's currently taking my 1979 T-40 and building a brand new T series 5 string neck for it as well as making a T style bridge to match the original. Sanding it to help lighten it, and flamed walnut bookmatched veneer. All Gold frets, tuners, bridge. Getting rid of the ugly pickguard and making all electronics accessible from the back. Should look incredible, and play even better. Hopefully it will be ready soon. I wouldn't touch any of the guitars Peavey makes now though. However the T series are great instruments, IMHO.
Also, I just opened up my new 4003 Monty Brown which was delivered Friday. Luckily no finish problems from the cold. It's just the most beautiful finish. I'm soooo happy with it. The sound is awesome. Nothing beats a RIC. Next will be a 4004/5Cii in the new Blueburst. Gold hardware with that color will be a thing of beauty!!!
