Everything they have is "Rare" and expensive. And since when did RIC start using Brazillian rosewood for their fretboards? Not!

That is standard stuff from our friends at MG. I have heard that 60's vintage Ricks had brazilian rosewood fingerboards. Cutting brazilian rosewood has been illegal for a number of years. It is extremely expensive when it does turn up because the supply is limited to wood from fallen trees and certain by-permit cutting. It is not unusual for a board of 32 x 2.5 x. 5 to cost several hundred dollars. I recently bought some other rosewoods of that size for less than $10 each. Many countries won't even allow it's import these days.

I have a beautiful piece of Brazilian stashed away. It's about 32 X 5 X 1. I was told it was from a supply that was cut in the 1950's.

I see that poor FG V63 is re-listed. This time they dropped the price about $200.00, down to a real bargain $3,349.00!
That's double what I paid for my MG, and I thought that was a bit much.

This is at least the forth time in a row this V63 has been listed at this price, and still not a bid on it, they could have saved a lot of listing fees.

They really take good care of their Ricks to keep the finish extra new by laying them down on the bare wooden deck also.

I followed a piece of brazilian on Ebay a while back. It was very pretty and enough to make a bass fingerboard. The bidding started out sane but ended up just over $400. I bailed out at about $45.

This is all pretty interesting. I am going to make a visit there in early May when I am in London.

Ted,

This is probably wrong in some way, but sometimes I like to just smell that piece of rosewood. It's so sweet, I could take a bite out of it!Image

This one is big enough for two bass fret boards. I think I paid about $45.00 for it last summer, and the guy had a lot more at that time.

You got a good deal. There are bargains out there but unfortunately, they have not come my way yet. :-)

Be sure to take plenty of cash or your credit card if you're planning on buying Mike.....I've been there on many an occasion and like everywhere else in the UK the prices are way above what you would see in the US.

Having said that there is no harm in looking is there, and there are plenty of other music stores in Denmark street to browse around while you're there.

You managed to get tickets for Cream didn't you Mike hence the visit to the UK?

You lucky fella..Image

I was on the phone for ages and ages and couldn't get through and missed out.
If you've never been to The Albert Hall you won't be dissapointed...the place is built for sound so accoustically it is superb and size wize it's not massive like a stadium, so all in all it's a great place to see a band play...have a great day!

Mike, like Martin says, Rick basses are far more expensive in the UK than in the US anyway, but Music Ground prices are about as high as UK Rick prices get. By all means look, but unless you find something you've just got to have (like I did with my 8 string), I'd buy elsewhere.
