I'm thinking about putting in an order for a LEFTY 4004Cii in Blueburst.


(Waiting for the laughter to die down...)


I have three questions:

1. Can someone PLEASE give me a reasonably accurate idea of how long I can expect to wait for this?

2. Aw, come on. PLEASE?

3. Would I be likely to get my hands on a lefty 4001C64FG any sooner?

Forgive me; I'm only asking because of situations like the one involving the Lemmys. I know that lefties are practically mythical, as well. Combine that with a 4004Cii, and I'm guessing that I might as well be waiting for the next Beatles reunion.

Hey, at least I'm not going for a 5-string!

Just out of morbid curiosity, has anyone actually taken delivery of a 4004LK? (Sorry if I'm pouring salt in the wounds, here!)

Nobody has posted about receiving an LK yet (there are at least three of us waiting on this forum). Someone on here did post that they bought one at Sam Ash a few years ago for, I believe, $2K. I emailed Mr. Hall in December and he stated that the LK run should be complete by this summer.

If you order a lefty 4004Cii from Mike Parks at www.ricpage.com you can always cancel if you come across a lefty 4001C64FG......or just wait until it arrives and sell it. If you do order one just try and not think about it much and someday it may actually show up !

I have waited over a year for a non special order.

FWIW I've been given two estimates of time for delivery of a Cii BBR:
1. "12 to 18 months"
2. "You're in for a long wait, buddy."

this is probably the biggest thing that detracts younger buyers(15-30)

For the majority of us, we are uncertain about what our financal situation will be in a year.

The atypical young would-be Ric buyer wants a CII BBR, not a 4003 FG, but waiting a year for delivery is too daunting.

so RIC builds the 4003 FGs that are in higher demand because the typical RIC buyer orders them. which cuts down their wait time.

Its a vicious cycle.

Im kinda curious if there is a profit difference between one 4003 and one CII

Its just disappointing, becasue guitars taht could be market contendors are thought to be myths.

So you should all stop buying 330s,360s,4003s and C series, so the rest of us can get some modern guitars!

A 4001C64 lefty would definitely arrive a lot sooner than a 4004Cii lefty (in any color). I love the 4004Cii's, even though I've talked to people that think they look "cheap." Incredible...

Dennis, that would be a one-of-a-kind bass if/when you did ever receive it. I suppose as long as you order the BBR in 2005, in three years when you receive it, you'd have the only one in existance. Damn man, you've already got plenty of Rics...you make me sick (not really)

I could see not liking a guitar, we all have our own tastes, but how in he world could anyone think a Cii looks "cheap?"

When I order a Ric I pay for it up front as I did my 4003FL Blueboy last summer. That way I don't have to worry about my financial situation when it comes in and I'm a student at this point so I'm not exactly rich either. I'm hoping to get the bass by this summer.

Jeff, I think people's perceptions of Rick basses is all wrapped up in the "trad" look, with binding, contrasting pickguard, FG/MG/JG etc. finishes, lots of chrome, etc. To such people, the terrific woodgrain, varnish, and other details at a different level on a Cii just scoots by them. Too bad...

I could see someone thinking the Cii looks plain compared to a 4003 (highly figured wood notwithstanding), but that's a far cry from "cheap."

As for the finances, it does make ordering a lot more difficult when you have no idea when you'll be required to pay for the instrument. I am not one who will pay in full for something months (or more) in advance.

The CII's are a departure from the traditional 4001/4003. But are in no way cheap or plain looking. I think people come to expect a lot of bells and whistles on a high end bass, (lotsa knobs, big black pickups, ect...) and the 4004 series is simplicity at its finest.

Scott, your picture says it all. Of course you could say I'm prejudiced, but these are exquisite basses!

There are people who would think a new Cadillac with wire wheel hubcaps, Vogue gold stripe tires, and phoney convertible top overlay, is a "beautiful" automobile. It's really not--it's a machine wearing pantaloons; as ridiculous as it sounds.

Then there's the vintage Mercedes with no bells or whistles--just nice lines, elegant paint, beautiful woodwork, real convertible top and blackwall tires. Maybe not economy-car simple, but honest and oh so sweet.

Your Cii is that Mercedes. Except that it has nicer woodwork!

So this would be a pimped Mercedes, right?
