I'm coming back to the Rick fold after many years as a prodigal son. I really can't live without my B string and I have seen photos of the 4004/5 but never have seen it in person. Can someone fill me in as how to go about getting my hands on one of these.

I'm selling a 4003s5 ... it has an outstanding neck and no fretware ... and it is available now ... you don't have to wait 14 months for delivery ... and if you don't like it you can turn around and sell it on ebay ... and it has single coil pickups ...

Welcome to the forum John ... I am all about Ric basses and I only play 5 string basses ... there is nothing like getting a ric growl and bite on a five string bass ...

Thanks for the responses. I am interested in the 4003. I kind of like the traditional shape of the 4003 comapred to the 4004. I can't believe they are so hard to find. I've dumped all my 4 stringer and only do 5 and 6. Sure would love to get another Ric. My first Ric was a late 70's white (yellow) 4001 and I loved that baby. It was stolen in 1983. Been through dozens of other basses since then but the Ric is calling me back.

Yep ... I've tried the Ibanez, Schecter, Fender, Musicman style basses ... they are all good in their own right ... but a Ric 5 string is sooo cool ... part retro and part modern ... it sounds so cool with a little distortion ala Chris Squire / Geddy Lee / Cliff Burton ... so much modern music needs that low B as well as jazz and country and blues ... and it even works on classic rock like Beatles and Stones ...

The 4004 is cool in its own right ... I have 2 4004 basses ... but I like the 4003 best ... I am all about single coil basses ... the 4004 pickups have their own unique sound and the new CII models have very cool looking wood ... the 4004 sounds like a ****** off p-bass ... lots of growl ... the 4003 has more single coil bite ...

the main problem with the 4003s5 is the string spacing ... it comes from the factory with 2 1/16" ... I modify it to 2 1/4" ... this is fine for small and medium sized hands ... but if you have lumberjack hands you will want the 4004CII5 ... its spacing is more like a musicman ... I have smaller hands so I like the slimmer neck and tighter spacing ... when I convert a 4004 or 2030 four string to a five string I can get a 2 3/8" spacing ... and if I am willing to change pickups than I can get 2 1/2" at the bridge ... for me 2 3/8" to 2 5/8" is the best spacing for a five string bridge ...

I have small hands and prefer a slimmer neck. A few of my basses are like playing a baseball bat. I'd be interested in your 4003 if it's for sale.

I am selling the bass ... I have 8 ric basses and one more on the way ... something has to go ... if you have small hands then you are probably distressed by the wide necks on Jazz V and other similar basses ... it is too much work to play them things ... but playing a slimmer neck improved my bass playing .. I can play faster and cleaner ...

yep ... that's the one I said I would be buried with ... I got tired of blue ... and I have 4 basses that play better and look better ... like I said before it has a really nice neck ... I really like my 425 conversion basses ...

I have a tax refund check burning a hole in my pocket. I need to spend it before my wife figures out I have it already.
