Hello all-
What can I do about my problem with accidentally loosening the bridge mute screws located on my 4001CS bass when I play behind the pick-up cover??? I try to tighten them a good amount without raising the padded mutes too much. That doesn't work too well. Any advice???

One thing you can do is put some 'Lock-tite' on the screw so it can't go up or down.

Do you need the mute?

If you actually use it ,then I would have someone braise on a couple of nuts to the mute plate.That will give you more length and also more thread....then change out the springs ,get a long stiffer spring .That will do it .

You could solder the nuts on ,but it may not last .

Thanks Mark. I might try one of those suggestions. I just try ro keep the bass as original as possible. (One of those vintage guys!)

Lots of originals have this done ...Frank DeCamillo in Philedelphia ...his old one has this stock!
