I've been searching for some good close up front and back pics of this 4001S for some time. If anyone out there has anything please drop me a line at my e mail address. Thanks!

"The Pink Floyd-Live in London", a film shot in '67 at the "24 Hour Technicolor Dream" and in the studio, shows Roger's "unique" playing style quite well.

Anybody know why he quit playing Rics and went to Precisions?

Gregory...

I think his 4001 developed a fairly serious neck bow(no pun intended!) and became a problem to play.

I'm not sure whether this was why he changed to Precisions or not, or whether he even still has the ric.

Usually the only pictures seen of it are BW, but I saw a clip from something on the telly a little while ago and Roger was in action with the 4001 in glorious colour...gorgeous lookin firegloImage

John Entwhistle quit playing his Ric bass because of neck bow ... that's why ric changed to a stronger neck in the 70's ... the old 60's necks sometimes would not hold up ...

. . . to the type of strings artists began to use in the 70's. The bass was designed to handle the low tension flat wounds of the 1950's.

Anybody ever try the bow thing? The rosin builds on the strings and rips apart your fingers the next time you play normally. (Not that I've ever tried it...)

'course, Brian Crisman would probably like it ;-)

but some of them did hold up ... my old '68 did quite well with round wound strings for many years ... but I prefer your new basses to the old ones ... they make better 5 string basses ...

Mr Entwhisle was hard on most basses and complained bitterly that his Albemics fell to bits on the road. Not sure how the Buzzards held up to touring.

Although not as famous as Pete Townshend for smashing guitars, Entwistle smashed a Buzzard to pieces once because he couldn't get the action as low as he wanted and rage took over.

Just hope he was happy with the action on his Rics!
