So am I the only sucker...I mean guy that watched the Grammys last night? No comment on the Ric 330 making an appearance? Seriously though, as dreadful as these shows usually are, this one wasn't that bad on the ears...or eyes if I might mention alicia Keys

Was good to see Edge using the Ric...as for the rest, some good spots and some so-so

I personally thought Green Day stole the night. Great, high energy performance. I really wish guitar bands would make a comeback. The electricity was excellent. Also, as much as I dislike Melissa Ethridge, she knocked that song out of the park. She HAS been singing it for 30+ years, but she sang it last night with a little something special.

I never watch any awards show ... it is like watching an infomercial for skin care products ... did any of you see Chris Rock's quote on the oscars?

But I did see a clip of Green Day ... I really like their music ... my band is adding a second Green Day song ...

Steve, I was saying the same as you 18 months ago. My wish came true and guitar bands have made a comeback in the UK in a big way !! At last, some decent bands playing instruments. The scene had hit rock bottom and now its up again. Green day have always been a big name in the UK but this American Idiot Album has sent them into stratosphere !

Keith, good to hear it! Now maybe it will filter its way back here, like so many other good UK trends!

Heres hoping that guitar music makes a comeback worldwide. We have had enough rap, R'n'B (not a true description but a lot of these so called R'n'B acts have adopted it)and Boy/Girl bands over the last 10 or 15 years to last us a lifetime. I'm not saying it doesnt have its place, but guitar bands have been cast aside, ignored and we have been force fed the other stuff !!! I dont even care that we have a band called McFly in the UK who are huge ! Its poppy and lightweight but they write their own stuff and play guitars. Now if that gives some 10 year kid the incentive to ask for a guitar and amp for Christmas thats ok by me. These are the kids that will keep it all going in the future. I hope my 5 year old wants a guitar/bass or a keyboard in the future, I will be real happy! Now look what you did Steve...you got me on my soap box.

You are dead on with this one. "Croakie" to - I hate that stuff. Musicians are dying for places to play, and nothing can compare to live music. That whole forum needs an overhaul. And, no band is complete without a guitar and bass.
It's up to us as musicians to influence the business any way we can to promote true talent and skill.

I agree as well. It seems as if in my area of the world (central Illinois) people are just clamoring to hear live bands. I play in a cover band - mostly what we call Rock'n'Roll - Mellencamp, Skynrd, some Wilson Pickett - the standard stuff - and people just go crazy for it. I thought we were just doing what every other band does - but so far we've gotten a couple of regular gigs. I'm kind of surprised by the whole thing, but enjoying the benefits

I went to pitch a song to a new publisher about two months ago. When the demo ended, he asked, "What did you use to get that nice guitar sound"? You should have seen his face when I told him it was a "real" guitar. Now I use my Roland synth a lot for demos - but hey, they're demos - and the band works cheap! People's ears have been so polluted with computer generated "sample" music from radio that they marvel at the sound a real instrument can make. Live music - I love it!!

Did I mention... I Hate Karaoke!!!

Hmmm...Guitar bands are making a comeback. Well I suppose so, but the quality of musicianship is definitely lacking in most of this stuff. It seems like the road from making noise at Guitar Center to making noise on the radio is a much shorter one these days. You don't see a lot of these "artists" that have been around touring and paying their dues like you used to. If bands like Boink 182 and Nickelback were happening when I started playing, I wouldn't have. When people like Clapton were in their early 20's, people were calling them God. Everyone knows that radio and pop music are sucking hard these days. I don't play music for a living anymore so my band plays what it wants to play. If I had to play much of what passes for music today, I'd feel like I was dummying it up for the crowd. Besides, I'm 44 and I'd feel like a dummy playing stuff like that.

I'm sorry to say it but you are sounding middle aged Dane ! I am not far behind you in years, but I arent going to complain about the musical ability of a lot of the musicians out there these days. I dont entirely agree with the idea that the generation of musicians in bands that are popular now are lacking in quality or ability. I think you are being nostalgic towards your era. You're 44 now which would have made you 17 or 18 when The Ramones made it through big. What did you have there, fantastic (IMO) 2 minute songs with virtually no more than 3 chords in any one of them. The simple song without loads of blistering solos or complex arrangements etc have a lot to offer. And no I wouldnt want to play songs by these young kids either, leave that to the young kids. We had our time then, when we were that age.

I've been wanting to start a band for quite sometime now but I'm wondering how much people are wanting to hear those old tunes?
When me and my friend jam together we just play some old songs (can you say Johnny B Goode? haha)

We had the chance to play at school last year for our senior year, we played While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I was suprised at some people actually coming up to me giving me thanks for playing something good! Of course alot of people probably never heard the song before...

So anyways I'm fairly young and I'm tired of hearing most of what I hear on tv or radio.

Now... If I can only find a drummer and a bass player.

Thats great that you like and appreciate some older music but I dont think you are getting my point. The point that I made originally was that I thought it was good that kids are playing guitars again. I dont care what music they want to play whether it be Hendrix or Green Day, its just good that they want to pick an instrument up.
