OK, I've ordered (and paid for) the 660/12 FG.

Did any of you actually think that I'd need any convincing? (I can be a ***** sometimes!!)

Probably won't have it until next Monday. Pity, because I could have taken it to the Searchers gig on Friday night and shown John McNally!!

I'll post a decent pic (hopefully) as soon as I can.

Just in case you're reading this JH, Drago at CMI looked after Peter at Eastgate Guitars who in turn looked after me! Therefore I would think that we're all happy.

Now, what am I going to play on this gee-tar apart from 'When You Walk in the Room'?

Play whatever you want to. And don't limit yourself to songs that originally used a 12-string. You know, you *can* bend strings on a 12 - take a sloppy lead or two. Have some fun.

Hear what you say, Adam. 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond' riffs on a 12 string - worth a try!!

Everybody needs at least two Rics...and a few more. I still have my 660/12 Petty and I like the wide neck....you will be amazed at what you can find to play.

Howard, play anything at all on this baby. Sometimes I just forget that it is the one in my hands and keep on going. Last Friday, I used my fav severely overdriven Soldano patch on the AD120VTH and layed out Iron Maiden's Run to the Hills. Then layed out on the floor to catch some air. It's fun to play, but I am not 25 any more.

A Hard Day's Night is pretty cool. Edgar Winter's Frankenstein is a callus ripper, but fun.

Seriously, you can play absolutely anything on the 660/12, with any effects you like. I use everything from jangle clean through ultra dirty, with Brian May echo and Leslie rotary modeling thrown in for interest. Shine on You Crazy Diamond would be excellent on this guitar.

Enjoy. Mine is only six weeks old and has a good 150 hours on her. I gotta go try some Floyd now...

Got it!!

Not only does it look and feel absolutely superb, it plays magnificently!! Since I ordered it I've had some trepidataions because I bought it sight unseen and have never touched a RIC 12 string. Silly me!!

The luthier set up the action sweet and low and the neck feels wonderful - very different to my 330/6 - much lower in profile and not as beefy (if you get my drift).

And it even jingles and jangles without an amp, Paul!

If there's a heaven on earth, holding and playing this beatiful instrument must put you at least half way there!!

When I got my 660-12, I was not yet a member of this Forum, so my own joy at first look and first playing was solitary.

Thanks for sharing yours! Now you know what we're chiming about! (And I noticed the same thing and do play mine without an amp when I just don't feel like pluggin' in!)

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your new baby...and Fireglo too! You make me feel so much less guilty for buying another Rick myself this week. It's nice to know that I'm not the only Rick freak in Melbourne feeding an insatiable habit!

So, what's next?

Congratulations Howard. What a thrill to pick it up, open the box an then open the case for the first look - man I miss that feeling. Then pick it up and in about 10 seconds all you concerns and trepidations are gone. That's a big part of what is cool about getting a new guitar. The 660 is a winner in Fireglo, in fact it looks great in every color and it plays Incredible. Let's get some PICS up Howard, we want to see it.

Howard, glad you finally got her. That first look feeling still hasn't gone away for me yet. So you can look forward to that feeling for a while! I noticed the unplugged jangle too. I have always felt if the guitar sounds amazing without an amp, it is just going to keep getting better!

The Floyd was fun Of course you are not going to bend to some of these leads quite as easily as with a light gauge 6 string, but with a bit of technique adjustment, the full sound of the 12 becomes even sweeter.

I tried a "whammy" pedal for the first time last night, and it can help get those extreme bend sounds out of the 12 string. Too crazy in fact.

I know you are just going to have a blast with the 660/12. Enjoy and let us know what you try out with her.

Hi H, Get a good capo - open chord progressions further up the neck are awe-inspiring. You get sounds that will give you goose-bumps. I've just been playing mine - Sixpence None The Richer's 'Kiss Me' - it's honey for your ears. Going back to do it again!

Took it back on Saturday morning - problem with the intonation of the D strings - fixed!!

They are like babies, aren't they? I'm not saying that they're the same but new babies and RICs fresh out of the box (sic) have a distinctive smell. Both more than pleasant!!

Need to find somebody(s) to play with (in the musical sense). I'm a lounge room picker with grand illusions (delusions??) and I guess it's about time I found out how bad I am at this caper!

Stan: Sounds like another song - 'Two is Not Enough!'. Man!! Two will have to do for the time being (give me a few months and I may be pregnant again!!)

Adam: The ends of my fingers now resemble something between raw mince and chicken bone - I can see the white bits but are they flesh or what?? Ever included your fingers when you're grating parmesan??

Paul: Sorry that your 660/12 experience was a solo event (insofar as a forum is concerned). Perhaps we can get together one day and shout it from the rooftops (preferred brand/type of liquor in hand)!!

Bill: Thanks for the congrats. The concerns and trepidations are gone - the repayments remain!! Pics posted in a new thread.

Dean: Set the Korg to 'Bender' last night (really dirty with lots of top end and whammy pedal to boot) and had a go at 'Sorrow' by Floyd - (live version). Couldn't get past the intro - awesome! Dave Gilmour must use an octave pedal when he does that!!

John: For the time being, open chords are the go! Struggling with the first fret (arthritis in the thumb is a real killer) and anything beyond the 8th or 9th (fat fingers!). I agree - lots of dirt and a some Wah or Rooster is a whole new world!

Lee: Yep! Got a capo but only use it for a tune or two. Play a D, leave the D string open and fart around with all sorts of variations on your way up. BTW, the intro to 'Purple Rain' takes on a whole new dimension on a 12 string!
