Sorry. Dale said he'd like John to comment on this bass, so I had to make the topic kinda slanted. Just kinda...

The strings on this bass are RED. And I mean RED! Who makes colored strings? Are they good and do they make black ones?

Sweet mapleglo!! The red strings are probably coated ones (thin polymer coating). The only coated strings I've tried is Elixirs, but they are basically clear in color.
Is that not rosewood on the fretboard? Sure is purty!

Oops, I mean clear-coated strings. I've seen black coated strings for sale under the brand Black Diamond (I think). Bass Player magazine just had a huge string shootout issue a couple of months ago - you should check it out if you get a chance.

I sold a bass just like that one about 3 years ago for $500.00. I just did get that amount on Ebay(maybe it was something like $480.00.) I couldn't give it away. Now all of a sudden everybody wants one. Go figure.

The red strings are most likely GHS Infinity Steels (come in red, black, clear). I have them on a Fender 5-string Jazz, white with a tortise shell pickguard. I bought them from Musician's Friend based solely on the color to match the guard. Turned out to be an OK string besides, kinda pricey though.

I'm hoping he can unlock the secrets of the unusual features.
Either that, or tell me it's a heap o' **** and that I should refinish it in white! =)
I was told by a REAL bass player that the strings felt like DRs. (Kinda spongey.) They feel good and sound good to me, but I think I'd like a set in black.
Can I say that when I plugged this into my '69 SVT and 4x10" cabinet that I had an "accident."

I don't know the routing on that headstock looks kind of suspicious unless when they first switched over to the newer style truss rod they routed them like that.

That and the 3-piece neck with a maple stringer and Ric-O-Sound... Also, shouldn't the TRC have a model name on it?
I had a nano-thought that it might be a Rickenfaker when I got it... But it ain't.
But it IS unusual and I would love to know who an instrument like this could have come about!
John Hall? Calling John Hall? Maybe my topic subject was a little TOO brash. Deal with it. =)
