Those 4005's are nice, but I'd take the V63 in the middle any day!
My MG V63 is beautiful, but I sometimes wish it was FG.

Got the bass.
The setup was quite bad so I put on a set of Joe Osborne flats and raised the bridge. Not bad but I just had to remove the horse shues. I know it looks kind of naked without them but they do get in my way and my playing becomes less dynamic that way.
So I opened it up and it looks like the last owner had removed the shues one time to many. The pup wires just broke off so I had to solder them back. Now everything is sweet. It´s a player indeed. Im going to try a set of rounds next.
One problem though, the neck is really sticky against my palm. My last v63 was not that way as far as I can remember. Might be some old dirt though.
Also I probably will get a Rick humbucker for the neck position as the toaster is too weak compared to the thunderous horse shue.

...as the toaster is too weak compared to the thunderous horseshoe.

Hm... Sounds like quite a common issue on Rick basses fitted with re-issue HS pickups. Yes, I guess replacing the toaster with a Rick humbucker is the simplest way to overcome the problem. I won't go into the alternative, not-so-simple ways - they're too much work, unless you are really intent on preserving the original look of your 4001V63.

I had two, one had a weak toaster, the other a strong one, the one with the strong one sounded great, was perfectly balanced

My toaster is a little weak, but that's fine for me. I usually play with the shoe volume at 10 and the toaster at about 7-8. If I need something less aggressive I'll switch to the toaster alone, and then kick it back over like a rocket booster! That shoe cuts through like a hot knife!

Man those 4005's look huge! I played one at a shop back in the mid to late 80's, and I don't remember it being that big! It was really cool, and I would have picked it up, but I had just bought a 4003S.

The toaster on mine balances quite nicely.

I just removed the distance washers under the toaster so it could go as high as possible. I even changed the small screws that holds the pickup together to make it go even higher.
Now the pickups balance really well.
I do love the look of the toaster and now it sounds good too. Great stuff!
