weird...looks like they have heght adjustable screws,it's hard to see what's going on with those.
What's with those three holes in front of the mute assembly as well?

If I had to guess, I'd say it is a mod for individual string height adjustment. It looks like the saddles were fitted with set screws. Not a horrible idea if done properly.....it might kill sustain though.
EDIT....gotta be quick around here
Those extra holes are likely from an aftermarket bridge of some sort.

I think its an aftermarket bridge. I saw one a few years back(oddly enough, on another 1974 mapleglo...but with white plastic and original pickups) that looked similar and might have been the same. The one I saw had saddles that were adjusted (forward and back, not height) by loosening an allen screw on either side of the string, manually pushing the saddle, and then re-tightening the screw. I was interested in the bridge, but it didn't have a name on it so I never knew who built it.

I remember looking at one of those about 15 years ago. And yes Jeff you are right it is aftermarket. As I recall the bridge was about $75 back then, just the bridge! It did not include the tailpiece. I can't remember who made it though. I think the factory bridge and tailpiece was less than that back then.
