we all use computers, so i will ask you guys my computer question,i just installed a video card[radian 9600]it works great, but im getting a check signal cable message when i turn off the computer[the same message you get when you disconnect your monitor while its still on.i usually turn off my computer and let the monitor go into power saving mode[help]exept now it will keep blinking that message.

I have a Radeon 9800, my screen is a TFT/LCD, so somehow it turns itself off.

I don't know what to recommend, you have the latest drivers/software for it?

I used the software that came with the card, Ive got a dell M770 CRT monitor-someone has surely had the same problem.

I'm a network administrator and my advice is to turn off your monitor ....

Ken, did you remove your old video card, or was the old one integrated on the motherboard? If it is integrated, make sure you disable it in the device manager or whatever your operating system's equivalent is.

As a person who is responsible for supporting 600 desktop computers, I can tell you that keeping it simple is almost always the best way to go. "Check signal cable" means there is no output from the video card. If the PC is OFF, then this message is totally normal and expected for many, many kinds of displays.

It has something to do with the Plug n Play interface of your display.

Try to re-install your display with Windows XP's own cache of divers, (i.e - "Search For Drivers" - be sure to untick all drives/locations except your C drive.)

It's also normal, and sure expected, for the display to go into Amber, or Standby mode too.

It'd be something that really niggled me, expecially since I can get into a heapload of trouble at work for leaving an $8000 display turned on all night.

If the PC is --OFF--, reinstalling drivers won't do anything to help. It is not a driver issue.

It's happened to me before, once your display has acquainted itself with the new card, It'll gladly do it.

Any "display" can recieve a signal from a RAMDAC chip and "show" stuff, but getting the card to talk to the display regarding power-down facilities, managed by the BIOS on graphics card, involves software somewhere along the line.

I'm speaking from experience, not expertise.

I'm pretty sure the monitor wouldn't depend on any shut-down routines to put it to sleep. It should "go amber" when the video card is powered down.

What's even weirder is that the message never disappears. Even if a monitor displays this message, it should go to sleep within a minute or two. Is this not the case?

i took the card out after many atemps to make things work properly ,now i know why some of these cards cost so much you get what you pay for this was only a $80.00 card.i reset the cmos on my system and now im back up.[took the card back to ccity and told them dont sell me another...

What about the old stand-by, turning the monitor off? I realize that's kind of an "old school" fix, but it works for me!

It wasn't only that every time I boot up the system the resolution was to low - had to go into display property's and reset it to much b.s. for me typing and spelling is hard enough..
