I have a 4003 and thinking about buying an Ashdown MAG C210T300. Anyone use this amp with a 4003? What are your opinions? Thanks in advance.

I've got an ABM500RC EVO and I like it, but it's been collecting dust for a while since I really only use my 70's SVT's...
I can't comment on the MAG series, but the ABM's are kind of like an Ampeg meets Eden/SWR type of sound.

Welcome Scott. I use an Ashdown ABM 300 evo and have done for some years. In my opinion they sound incredible, they look great, but more important than looks they are solid and ultra reliable ! What more do you want? I am also an Ashdown Artist so I have to shout up for them. I have to say I have never tried any of the MAG range, though I suspect they will be very good. I am also a big fan of the 2x10 speaker config so in my opinion I think you will find it to be very pleasing to the ear. I use a pair of 4003's through it and I wouldnt change a thing.

I'm with Jeff, I own 6 bass amps: Ampeg, Ampeg, Ampeg, Ampeg, Ampeg and of course Ampeg.

Oh and Rob also, three of them are Ampeg SVT's and they also have 2x10's in them (4 sets per cab) haha! They'll knock a wall over if you want (and clearly).

I was considering stepping up to an Ashdown ABM 500 but after reading the reviews on Harmony Central, which were not good, I decided on an Ampeg B4R.

HI Scott, welcome to the Forum.
I believe the newer Ashdowns are now manufactured in the "Big Factory in China" ....
I play my 4003 through an Ampeg B-25 tube amp, I've also played through Orange, and Marshall tube heads. couple of the other members are using the Traynor YBA-200 tube head, and the XSH800 which is solid state with a tube front end.

There certainly are lots of Ampeg fans here. Should I ever buy a real bass rig, I will have to try an Ampeg or two. About a year ago, I tried the modern version of the Fliptop. It had an amazing sound for a little amp. If the big ones sound like that, I am sure I would buy one. Is the SVT still a tube amp?

Ted,
There's a 300 watt tube version of the SVT.
Ampeg SVT-AS
And a 100 watt tube
V-4BH both these heads use a similar SVT type preamp.

OK, just to break the monotony of Ampeg owners stepping up and beating their chests, I recommend GK! (dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn!) I tried an Ampeg B2R, didn't like it as much in a side-by-side comparison with the GK400RBIII, ended up with (I feel) a better amp for half the money!

Gk, Eden, and SWR are all too clean for my taste ... they all seem to lack personality ... ampeg has more warmth and more low end and more character ... this is important if you want punchy mids ... if you want a scooped out sound then go with the GK, Eden, or SWR ...
