I have a Jerry Byrd console steel guitar. These were made from 1961-67. The serial number C9187 doesn't correspond to the numbering sequence of that era, which according to all sources I have seen would have had two letters followed by two or three numbers. I presume the C indicates production year 1963. Perhaps 9 indicates September.
Any other thoughts?

Actually I used Gruhn's guide, but it says the same thing. At least we're pretty sure it's a "63.
