I have a 76' 4001, and my treble pickup needs to be recoiled. Is this something I can do myself? Or can anyone recommend someone or someplace that does this? CHEERS!!!

rewound to 70's specs. If you choose to send it out to my shop I would need the complete pick up.

Chris, how do you transport a seventy-six foot-long bass guitar? That would make the treble pickup about 2 feet wide. But I'm sure Dale's your man to rewind that big bass bad boy...

Sergio, what would it cost for Chris to send a seventy-six-foot-long 4001 to Roma for a rewind job on the treble pickup?

Maybe he could just sail it across...the Mediterranean must be fine this time of year!

I believe we all are.
I would urge Chris to think twice before sending his massively rare, huge 4001 my or anyone else's way...
Seriously, Chris, is this treble pickup original to your '76 4001? If not, is it Rickenbacker-made?

It is original. When I bought it, it was a total rehab job. The original owner cut the wires for the treb pickup so close that when I tried stripping them to resolder, the wire to the coil pulled free. How big a difference in tone is there with the newer ones?

I have two questions:
1. where did you get a 76 foot long bass?
2. What on earth did you do to your poor pickup that makes it recoil from you?
