Stereo / Ric-O-Sound

OK – the FedEx guy pulls and delivers an overnight envelope. It’s from a friend off mine in Nashville who runs a small studio and does A&R work for hire. There’s a CD with a note inside says “listen to this – then call me”.
I put the CD in and push play – there’s four takes on the CD – each about 25 seconds or so. Now this guy is a real good player but what blew me away were some of the coolest guitar sounds I’ve ever heard!!! I call my friend and he says a guy’s doing a solo project with some session players from town, but the solo guy is doing the guitar work – using a Rickenbacker 360 with stereo output going to two different processor boards.
I mean this is remarkable!!
Is this the same as “Ric-O-Sound”? And which models besides the 360 have this feature???

I looked in the archives but couldn't find anything that resembled this...

That's it. Ric-O-Sound has been on some models since the mid to late 60s. It became stock on deluxe models sometime around '70.

Ken - Thanks for the response. I knew about Ric-O-Sound but am somewhat of a recluse with headphones on about 12 hrs out of the day - I need to get out more!
Is there a rhyme or reason to the models that have the stereo out - i.e. all models that have, say "60" in them - like 360, 460, 660, etc.???

No rhyme or reason. It's "deluxe" models, but my "deluxe" 660 is a mono guitar, whereas my "vintage reissue" 381 TOL has it.

It is neat. I used a stereo jack out once, running a Y to separate amps on the Ric-O-Sound. It is different.

Buz...
Are you using any processors like a Roland?

No, I ran it straight through two amps but I have run the same process, using two separate tracks, through a Mackie mixer, which went through my limiter/compressor.

Guys - Work with me here - I've been play'n the same old RIC (430) since I ditched Fender and Gibson back in '75. Just never went look'n for another guitar as this one always "fit the bill".
This stereo output with two processors could be a very cool thingy to play with!!

Michael, it's been a while since I did this but using a double band jack out( for stereo), built my own spliter and created the stereo effect. You could likely run it through whatever you wanted I guess. Like I said it's been a while, like eight years ago since I jacked with it, so my theory may be a little off. I was just messing around with my 360/12. Peter Mc might have a better explanation.

I have a 2003 360/6 with "Ric-o-sound" I'm still playing around with it and all the possibilities. The jack can be used as stereo, mono or split the stereo and mix two different effects. What you heard was probally some pretty cool phasing happening. Ric-o-sound rocks!
