I have a 75 Ric 4001 that someone has put aftermarker tuners on. I want to put the stock tuners back on, but I'm not sure if the headstock has been drilled out or not. The tuners on it now fit in a 9/16" hole.
Can anyone give me the stock hole diameter and collar (bezel) diameter?
Thanks

The stock '75 4001 basses I've seen had Kluson
tuners, but Rick also used Grover tuners as well.
If the tuners used were the Kluson,here are your specs, taken from some actual Klusons I have in my Ricky parts box:String post diameter is 3/8";
bushing hole diameter is 1/2" diameter.If the original tuners Were Klusons, the hole pattern from the mounting plate of the tuners is 7/8" wide
by 1 1/2" long. Grover tuners had a smaller pattern.The actual hole diameter for the Kluson
tuner string post would be the next drill size up from 3/8",since a matching hole size with a matching string post would be too tight a fit.
Hope this helps!

My 1972 4001LH had the closed-back Grovers from the factory but at some point these were replaced with what I believe to be Schallers...Unfortunately, these required a bigger hole so the headstock was drilled out to accomodate the new tuners. I thought about putting the bass back to original but this would require dowelling the holes and having them re-drilled for the grovers...I'm leaving it alone(for now)........

John, I'm in the same boat. I measured the holes last night and the have been drilled out to 11/16". I thought about dowelling them to, but I think I'll wait awhile.
