Roy: Interesting to see another Byrds - Searchers connection with "LAY DOWN YOUR WEARY TUNE." Can you comment further on there Searchers' performance or has it been a little too long since you heard it?

Yes Peter, I had not heard this song until I heard The Searchers perform it the mid seventies.
I later bought an album with The Byrds version on it. Arrangement wise there was little difference, the only thing I could cimment on, was that in my view The Searchers played the song at a faster pace, making it more "punchy"

In answer to your query regarding Photo's in the article, in order they are
1. 1996 Taken on a cold January night in Minehead, in the south of England
2. Taken in January 1981 just after they had finished their performance at a cabaret club called The Fiesta in Stockton, Northern England. At this stage the band were featuring a lot of numbers from the first Sire album.
3. 1982 A promo photo
4.1987 Again a promo photo.

Roy: I really like the 1996 photo. It is a great shot of John McNally and yourself. Can you remember the set list on that night?

Not specifically off top of my head, but I have the whole show on Video. This was a sixties weekend event held at Butlins Holiday Camp in Minehead. Various groups were on at different venues throughout the evenings
E.g Dave Berry, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Hermans Hermits(Less Herman these days), Merseybeats,Rockin' Berries.
What was slightly unique about the event however was that on the Saturday, Mike Pender's Searchers were top of the bill and on the Sunday,The Searchers were top of the bill.
For a Avid like me this was seventh heaven.
Fortunately the groups were not booked to appear on the same night, could have been fun!!!

Roy and all: The Dylan song Lay down your weary tune is also beautifully recorded by Coulson, Dean McGuinness Flint, on their superb Lo and Behold album, which consisted entirely of (lesser known) Bob Dylan songs, mostly from the "Basement tapes" period. I can easily believe that this song would have suited the Searchers very well.
