Hi everybody.

I have three (great) guitars, but I think it's time for a Rickenbacker. I love their shape, their buttons... everything on them.

But there are few chances to try one of them here at my city. So, I'd like you could give me your advice. I like all styles but punk-rock and blues. In your opinion, what is the best Ric (best tone, best construction, most versatile equilibrium)?.

Welcome Pere...well, you got the 300 series or the 600 series, and you got your 12's or your 6's...also the Vintage series....on and on. Everybody on this forum has their own preference but we all love Rics of all kinds. It depends greatly on what you're looking for. Welcome to the forum Pere. Like Stan says, everybody will have their own opinions, but mine is the classic 330 or 360. Their thinline semi hollow bodies give you the classic Ric sound that just about everybody who used a Ric made famous.

It should be a 6 strings one. I'd like great clean tones mainly, and also some nice light or medium overdrive tones. I like classic rock, hard rock, indie, new metal, and pop-rock.

I have three PRS Custom 22, so this time I'm looking for something more bright. I can tell good Gibson and good PRS guitars from not so good Gibson and PRS, I am sure it's the same with Rics. So, please, speak open minded and be clear and sincere with me, please. There must be any Rics better than others. I'd like a well built guitar, personal and unique tone, not muddy, the one you can listen to every note in a chord, and a guitar that gives me more tones than other Rics. That is.

To me, the distinctive look of the 330 (or 360v64) is the quintessential Rickenbacker.

Pere...when you get a Ric, they are handcrafted..to precision. I really can't say that any one Ric is better than another, there is just one persons personal taste over another persons. If you are looking for clean tones, then there is nothing better than a Ric. Bright, crisp, without a doubt, and you have three folks here already who have heavily vouched for the 330 or 360. Classic look, Ric classic sound

Since I have big fat bass guitar hands, I would opt for the 660 because of the thicker neck. I owned a 360V64 6 string and loved the sound but ending up selling it because I was just having too difficult a time actually playing. Part of that was operator error..lol.

I agree that the distinctive Rickenbacker look is the 300 series. I wish they would incorporate the 660 features (or at least make them available) on other instruments...meaning full width inlays and checkerboard binding. The 660 is stunning to look at. You'll make a good decision with either one.

Thanks Robert. But I'm not a Beatles fan, nor a Yardbirds fan. To me, it's more important the sound and the durability than the shape or look. Althoug Rics are so-so-so beautiful...

I agree with the 660 idea, it being a solidbody more akin to the guitars you like but brighter due to the toaster pickups.

RIC does, it is called the 381V69!

And the Carl Wilson 360....

Aaahh, that's right. Well, being primarily a bass player I was thinking out loud about those features for a 4003. Now THAT is what I want the inlays and binding for.

Thankyou Scott. I like wide necks because I was used to classical guitar, I rather want space for my fingers too.

O.K., Stan. I'll try to locate some songs where the 330 or 360 are used on it. I thank you all very much because you did not try to take me to the expensive Rics. I also wanted to say that Rics and people keen on Rics were very appreciated and respected at the old PRS forum.

Well, a 660 is going to cost you a few hundred more than a 360.
