Just an observation about how many Rics you see on Ebay that are being sold from the UK. We all know how expensive they are to buy them in Europe, but a large percentage you see up for auction are based out of the UK. Any thoughts?

A lot of (positively ****) bands like Franz Ferdinand and Razorlight use Rics, they're fashionable for one.

OK - Before I start on an anti-poprock rant, forgive me.

It's a good point Andrew. I was talking to a friend of mine that wanted to bid on a Ric from the US, but the seller wouldn't take his bid, despite the fact that he wanted it delivered to his US shippers & his feedback is superb. My friend said that it was crazy, because he would have paid much more for the gtr because of the strong Pound at the moment.
My point is that buying from the US is good at the moment because of the good exchange rate, but the other way round is just not worth considering. I have noticed this trend too, but don't see the point in advertising British gtrs on US ebay.

Henny, got to disagree with you on that. I like both bands from what I've heard; but then there's very little music I don't like. Amongst my favourite bands are the Chilli Peppers, Yes, Hawkwind, Green Day, ABBA, Bow Wow Wow, Floyd, Jamiroquai, Fun Lovin' Criminals, the Police, Camel, The Hives, Motorhead....you get the picture. The only bands (???) I can positively say I don't like are Simply Red, Boyzone and Westlife. Anything else, bring it on. I HATE musical snobbery!!!Got too much of that at home from my dad who was a jazz purist. I love jazz too, but a musical purist I am not. (Ahem!!! Talking of rants...)

With regards to Ricks, yes they're fashionable, and that's why there are a lot of them for sale. Everybody's clearing them out to try and make a bob or two. Bear in mind in the 80s you couldn't give 'em away.

The interesting thing is though, that the amount of Rics for sale on ebay UK. is similar to how it has been for quite a while. The number hasn't gone up, it just seems that recently, more of them are being advertised on ebay US as well.

I take the "positively ****" comment back, they wouldn't be where they are now if the were (bows in apology) - But I've attended two Razorlight gigs - and BOTH were absoloutely terrible; almost as if the band fell to pieces on stage.

I just can't dig the new modern music trad, indie and all.. bleah.

I think a lot of Brits wanted to be like Paul McCartney or Chris squire....we were all inspired by someone.

Henny, no probs! Although I personally find most music inspiring in some way, and I can hear as much melody in Black Sabbath as in Steely Dan, it's just presented differently. I love pop, rock, jazz, funk, reggae, rap, classical, you name it. I just run into so many people who won't give bands a chance (both well known bands and struggling-trying-to-make-it bands), it just gets on my wick a little; it is (as you probably noticed) one of the few things to really get me ranting! I know everyone likes what they like, I just find it strange when people dismiss whole musical genres. But don't worry about it, it's my problem! However if I ever hear another "you see what your band is doing wrong is you're playing the wrong type of music" this being irrespective of what they actually DO play...well, bleah, to quote you (do I now owe you royalties ???) BTW, like the track, sounds cool. Nice one.

Got to say, I'm surprised people in the US would buy Ricks from the UK, unless it was a special piece. But it worked for Henny! Although that WAS a special piece....

And Ken, McCartney and Squire...can't argue with either of them. Giants, IMHO.

A ton of Rics on the U.K. site at present compared to normal including a nice 73 B/G there..

The modern U.K. music is just **** imo...I,m with Henny all the way. Lacking melody and vision and musically a complete step down from the 60's and 70's. From the real great bands and performers such as Queen, Who, Zep etc, to the brilliant pop of the day from ABBA to acts like Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, 10CC and the like, the musical numpties of today don't even come close...

In a fit of bordem, I just compiled the following...
There are 47 listings on Ric ebay UK, of which 37 are guitars, compared to 123 listings on Ric ebay US, of which 84 are guitars.

I am not bored enough to cross referance to find how many are in both however....

Andrew, don't get me wrong, most of my favourite bands are from the 70s, but what you've just said is pretty much what my dad said about "Rock'n'Roll" and the Beatles when they came out (and probably what HIS dad said about Basie and Ellington)...

Tony, I have done a thorough inventory of all the lefty Ricks on UK and USA ebays to go with your compilation. There are 2 available to the UK (1 bass, 1 guitar), and 2 available to the USA (again 1 bass, 1 guitar). I have plenty of spare time so I have done the job properly and cross referenced them. And yes, they are the same 2!!! (Please note my tongue is firmly in my cheek).
