I dropped in to the Long & McQuade in Cambridge, Ontario (formerly Murch Music) to check out the Blue Boy 620 that just arrived (very Nice!). Out of curiosity I asked if they could do a Long & McQuade company-wide search for any in-stock 381's. Don hit the list and found that the Cambridge store will be getting one (unknown colour). Then the computer found only ONE 381 in all of Canada. It's out in a Vancouver store without a retail amount on it. I will post the arrival of the 381 in Cambridge as soon as it comes in. If it's a Turquoise 12, then my Les Paul 25/50 is up for sale that same moment! |

Chances of it being a Turquoise 12 are slim to none, sadly. |

Steve: The Rickenbacker Page has just received a 318V69 12 string in Turquoise. Just a quick heads-up. |

Paul: Thanks very much...I saw that one but I'm up here in Canada eh, and I am still scared about the border, customs & exchange problems. I just fantasize about an uncommon-colour 381/12 showing up somewhere around here. Does anyone suspect that a 381 was ever shot with BlueBoy? |

It's not really difficult to arrive at an estimate close to your final cost when ordering from the US. Just use one of the currency converters to convert the price and using a spread sheet calculate gst, pst (depending on province I guess) and brokers fees for that price and add to arrive at a total. |

I've seen a couple of BlueBoy 381s in photos, not in person. For such a rare animal, if you've got the hots, IMO it's worth making a bit of a stretch to bag it. |

Eggzackly. Car trunk, no receipts obvious. I've had it forever, officer. Well, at least since last August... I got a $10K contrabassoon into Brasil for a friend this way (told customs it was mine and I'd owned it awhile). Saved him $5K in import duties. I've already told the story at length in another thread. |

Steve, I'm in Montreal. I buy most of my gear out of the US now, because Canadian retailers sell at list only (or maybe a slight discount). I saved over $1000 CDN on my 660/12 by bringing it in from Philadelphia. Figure on $75 broker fee plus GST/PST (charged by Revenue & Customs Canada) on top of your exchange rate. Most credit cards give you the rate on the day it is charged plus 2 or 2.5%. There is no duty on guitars made in the USA (Free Trade Agreement). The folks I've dealt with even pay the shipping to my door. Ordered my 660/12 on a Wednesday and got it in my hands on Friday, and it came out of the case in tune! I have to date bought a Vox amp head and cab, covers and road cases, Ric 660/12, LP Custom and have only ever paid the $75 and GST/PST. Never had a problem. ...Dean |
