Peter, go to this link for 650 guitars in the service section of the RIC site: http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdf/650.pdf It shows different part numbers for neck 00060 (chrome) and bridge 00062 (chrome). |

Thanks Ken. I have been there and I agree that there are indeed different part numbers. Nonetheless, I have never read that these pickups were different in their construction. Sometimes something as simple as a shorter or longer leads for different pickup locations is all that it takes for the different part number. Perhaps someone from Rickenbacker will chime in here. |

How about for a 24-fret with only two pick-ups. Has anyone tried hi-gain in the neck, and toaster at the bridge ? I believe you can alter the hi-gain cosmetically to look like a toaster. |

Yes Steve, a good point. You can indeed make cosmetic changes. In this case, I just figured if it looked like a duck and sounded like a duck then it should be a duck. |

Sure, it looks fantastic anyway, must have an interesting sound ! I am thinking about a regular 300 kind of Ric now, 24 fret, surely someone has tried hi-gain at the neck and toasters at the bridge, I'm waiting for some chime in. One concern would be the disparity in output level. You obviously solved this problem already ! |

Regarding the output level, my first attempt was not successful, however, as long as you have a separate volume knob for each pickup the varying output levels is not problematic. Not all orderings of these pickups work the same. I found that it was important, at least in my case, to have the high gain and toasters in the neck and bridge positons. The addition of a toaster or high gain in the middle was not as desirable as the humbucker. When all three of the pickups are on, in this arrangement, the jangle is quite incredible. |

Sure, you can always do that. I am swimming in three days of nostalgia and beer from my 20-year high school reunion weekend. I'll bet I was the only bloke there with three Rickenbackers ! |
