Sorry for the double-post but I thought I'd post some pictures that were on ebay not too long ago... Great example, 12-string tho.

In addition to the differences already pointed out, as the photos above show, RIC used figured Maple for the tops (and backs) of the CW's. Also, the headstock shape was more in the 60's vein, a la the V64's. |

Ever notice the bottom curved edge (below the knobs) of the 360 has an indentation, i.e., it's not round ? When I saw that on my 360/6, I thought it was a manufacturing defect, but then I observed the same thing on my 360/12. I wonder why that is ? |

It's not really an indentation. It's the area where the radius of the top resolves into the sharper edge of the lower bout and tailpiece. If this wasn't done, the tailpiece relief would look strange. There may be other reasons too, but that's my .02. |

Then why doesn't the top part of the guitar body have the same thing ? |

Isn't it for the jackplate? |

There's the answer. Mine was a supposition and was well off. Steve asked THE question and Ken provided THE answer. And the truth shall make us free... |

Yes that had to be done so that the jackplate would fit properly on the round-top guitars. There is one round-top guitar(a 365) that's believed to be a prototype or a sample from April 1964 doesn't have that flat section for the jackplate, or the body is not as rounded as we know it today; The body looks like it was hand-shaped....John Williams owns this guitar. http://www.homestead.com/aurs/64365.html |

That question got me looking at my modern 360's... Same thing... But look at the lower edge on that CW! Really cool. Somebody needs to take that sticker off though. JKC |
