The tuning pegs on my 1991 FG 345 are made of a translucent, pearl-colored plastic. Were these factory-issue, or more likely installed later? I've seen Schaller tuners with these kinds of pegs before, but never on a Ric. Thanks

You mean the buttons you turn, right?Like you, I've never seen the pearl buttoned ones on a Rick, but bet it looks kinda cool.A possibility is that[assuming you weren't the original or previous owner] someone before you owned it simply changed the buttons themselves fron the original chrome ones.

Exactly, the buttons you turn and no, I'm not the original owner. They do look kind of cool, in my opinion, but I am just surprised that someone would bother changing them out.

!!!Hey, Rick owners have been known on occasion to do things to personalize or "trick out"
their babies, right, guys?

Touche! So the consensus is that there's no way these are original? That's what I wanted to know -Rickenbacker never opted to install this kind of Schaller tuner?

You can buy those buttons and Ebony ones at Stewart MacDonald. That is to say without replacing the whole tuner. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Knobs/Tuner_knobs/Schaller_Replacement_Tuner_Knobs.html

Those would look cool on a jetglo guitar with the white guards.

Craig, some early (1964ish) 360s and 600 series guitars had a pearl tuner. Maybe someone was trying to recreate that look.
