Howdy, Can any of you hear a tonal difference between the 330 and 360 tone-wise? I know that John Hall posted somewhere on the 'net that the 330 had a little more air knocking around inside it, but does it translate to an audible difference in tone to afficionados like us? To clarify, I'm asking about 6-strings. I've been playing 330's for years and only "test drove" my first 360 today and liked it. FWIW, the 330 was inherently louder when plugged in at the guitar shop today! The 360 played and felt great, I might add. I'm new to this forum, but not Rickenbackers. I've read the Smith book and have been owning Rickenbackers for over 20 years. I love 'em! Respectfully, Larry |

I own both. The 330 seems a bit fuller, maybe. The 360 sounds great also. I find that I need different knob settings, on my 360 (to get the sounds I like), compared to the 330. It seems like the neck pick-up is hotter on my 330. I also think the little E rings out more on my 330, but I also played a 330 at Sam Ash, and its little E rang out less, more like my 360. Overall, though, I would say they are nearly the same sound. I prefer the look of the 360, but I may use the 330 for most of my recordings !! If I were only going to have one, I would prefer to play them in person, and pick the one with the best sound. They do seem to vary from guitar to guitar. |

The 330 to me has a little more depth than my 360 but I run different settings for all of my guitars. I also have different strings makes and different gauges on both. But I think the 360 and 330 are close in sound proximity. |

Last night, I did an experiment with both my 330 and 360 (hi-gains on each). Acoustically, the 330 is much fuller (not a little fuller, but much fuller), and I think that translates when plugged in also. I have D'addario 11's on the 330, and it has been set up with proper neck tension, whereas the 360 has factory strings and set-up. I am not sure if a proper set up and heavier strings will beef up the sound of my 360. One thing I notice, on my 360, is that, with both pick-ups selected, the sound seems thin to me, whereas a full sound is achieved with each of the individual pick-ups. Is it possible that there is some phase cancellation when both pick-ups are combined? How would I determine this ? |

Steve, that's strange. Make sure your have the blend knob turned full, counter closkwise. In other words, the neck PU fully engaged with the bridge. Just a thought. Every once in a while I find that knob somehow has been turned clockwise and drops out the neck PU. I think its from hitting it unkowingly when playing. |
