Yep That's probably a good plan. You do have to look good too. That's all part of the game. |

Brian: I would think a Burns Bison with a Union Jack would be more appropriate but hey, it's a free world (I think)! I have a Squier Affinity Strat which I bought a while ago when I got back to playing and it's really not a bad guitar. The tremolo is s**t but I don't use them much anyway. Stays in tune reasonably well and really sounds like the genuine article - you cant impersonate Dave Gilmour on anything other than a Strat (well, maybe a Duo Jet). I replaced the 9 lights with 10s and it's a smooth player. They do vary a hell of a lot in quality, so if you were to buy one, you'd probably have to play twenty before you found a good 'un! I sleep with my 330 FG, Brian. It's starting to complain about me taking up too much of the bed and my flatulent nature. Sheesh...... women!! |

Geez Howard a Burns Bison, In '64 my rhythm guitarist in England had one of those. A brand spanking new one in fact bought on hire purchase. He was a clumsy bugger. (can I say that) He leaned it up against his Bird amp and got caught up in the cord on his way off stage. If he had'nt of jumped it would not have followed him. But follow him it did. The result was a decapitated Bison. Lovely guitar but too much plastic and twiddly knobs for a Union Jack re-finish. Yeh on the 330 FG my 360/12JG WB is getting jealous. After all I have to admit that she is the new love of my life. How do you deal with all these emotions? LOL |

The Bison was a bit too fiddly for my taste--too much pickguard and not enough body showing. And--Greenburst shaded to black? Possibly the worst color ever done on a guitar. The Japanese did a lot of those in the '60s, too. |

I remember thinking at the time that I did know that there was a manufacturer that could even make a decent guitar in England. You are right Paul, the colour was hideous. I was playing a Hofner Gold Top similar to a Les Paul at the time. The control plate was like the one on Maccas bass. Too funny. |

Oddly enough (or not) Burns are making a bit of a comeback here in Oz, as are Hofner. As I recall, the Burns guitars were a real handful in the 60s - big bodies and very heavy! The current signature Hark Marvin jobbie goes for quite a bundle ($3200 AUD), as does the Brian May black/gold special ($2700 including case). I love the way they use the original terminology - 'Reso-tube' tremolo system and 'Reso-Matic' pickups... haha!! I agree with you on the fiddly bits - less is more! |

I have not seen any here in Canada yet but I did see a distributor on the net in the US is selling them. It was probably ER. But I am not sure of that. Paul would probably know. It seems to me that they are quite expensive. Not my cup of tea. Rics, Strats and LP's will do me just fine. |

I bought the ES-335 instead of an LP, Brian. I like to be a bit different..... and playing jazz on an LP just doesn't quite look right (not that I can play, mind you)!! Jeez..... it's 2.15pm and I'm supposed to be cleaning, de-cluttering and setting up a pseudo music room! Oh well, there's always tomorrow and Friday (long, boozy lunches with mates notwithstanding)! |

They're not too bad on price, Brian and Aitch. I seem to remember the $600.00-$700.00 range. There are some major distribution deals in the States, too. I did not mean to appear to run their quality down; from what I have heard, the build quality is pretty good. North Coast carries them, as does myrareguitars.com. |
