     Prototype for 75th

This is the very first instrument ever made for the Rickenbacker 75th Anniversary promotional instrument campaign, months before actual production for the series began. It's a fully-functional, playable, yet one of a kind 4003 Bass. The photos show it in the announcement in the NEWS section of the Rickenbacker website (it's still up there), as well as closeups of the actual instrument taken on October 28th.

This instrument can be distinguished from other Rickenbacker 4003 basses by the special, laser-engraved gold-colored pickguard and truss rod cover/nameplate (which I designed and produced for RIC). It can be told from the rest of the 75th Anniversary instruments by a different paint color, and by the fact that the name plate has the "Rickenbacker" logo script is in the same gold as the rest of the nameplate (all the rest of the 75th instruments had contrasting platinum "Rickenbacker" script against a gold background.) You can see in the photos that the instrument shown in the website announcement, in Ben Hall's hands at the factory in August, 2006, and in the finishing rack during the 75th Anniversary tour in August of 2006, also has that unique nameplate.

Additionally, this instrument has a slightly different (transparent) DCM finish, through which the wood grain can be seen in a strong light, whereas the other 299 75th Anniversary instruments all had reformulated, opaque DCM paintwork. This bass also has a "special" even, beginning of series serial number, 06 13XXX. Standard features include the then-new capacitor bypass selector pull pot. This bass comes with OHSC and the original shipping box, too, marked with the bass' serial number.
