Notes from Boston Concert: |
I went with my drummer, with whom I still play and my wife, who was my
girlfriend back then. I think it was toward the middle of the month. I'll
have to check on the actual date, which is easy to find.
I was out of my mind
realizing that I would have a chance to see Paul. I actually had the vice-president of the Boston Celtics get me the ticket. His name is Jeff Cohen. We
worked together at a dog track in Revere Massachusetts at the time. Anyway the ticket
cost $9.50 and had a spider web design. My seats were in a mezzanine section
of the Boston Garden. They were pretty good seats for the average fan. For me
they were like being 3 miles away from the stage.
Before the show, I sneaked
down to the stage and went wild standing in front looking at THE
RICK. I couldn't believe that I was standing about ten feet from it! I gave
my camera to a roadie to take this shot and was happy at the way it came out.
I still have the negative somewhere.
I actually sneaked in a Panasonic cassette
deck and recorded the whole concert. It came out remarkably good for such a
cheesy unit. I used three cassettes and recorded everything. At one point there
was a little monitor feedback and you can hear Paul commenting to the tech to
take care of it.
During the concert, the crowd got a litttle unruly and
started to press toward the stage. Paul mentioned about love and not getting
hurt, and broke the song lineup and went to "My Love" where he usually would let
Denny Laine do "Go Now." So that was the one missing song to the concert. I
recall that he only did one encore "HI HI HI." Anyway, I actually can be heard
crying on the recording as he came out and they started Rock Show. I just
couldn't believe that I was really seeing Paul McCartney, my life long idle.
I also saw him twice during his early 90's tours. At Worscester Massachusetts, I was
standing no more that twenty feet from the stage, and he was looking right at
me. I sneaked a 35mm camera, which were forbidden and took several pictures of
him with his Wal 5 string, and later the Hofner. These pictures are dark and
not that good. The camera did not have a telephoto. Someday maybe I will get
to meet him. Did you know that he has or had another
4001S MG besides the original? Look at the photo below this review and take notice of the bass over his left shoulder. ~ Ed Dupont ~
