Information About The Rip Chords: |
Historical research has revealed that the original "Rip Chords" were from Southern California and comprised of Phil Stewart; Arnie Marcus; Rich Rotkin; and Ernie Bringus. The band was formed in 1961 and signed by Columbia Records in early 1963. Releases in 1963 included: "Here I Stand" in March; "Gone" in August; and finally "Hey Little Cobra" in November. They released "Three Window Coupe" in April of 1964.
As the photos on this page indicate, "Hey Little Cobra" was the group's biggest hit and according to Billboard ratings actually entered the national charts on January 11, 1964 reaching the number 4 postion during the song's 8 week stint. As of January 2000 current members include; Mitchell Schecter on the Rickenbacker 12-string and Robert Rush on bass.
