Part One: Mike Pender's Searchers Walk In The Room

A capacity crowd filled the Lowton Civic Hall on Thursday July 13th for a show billed as 'They Sold A Million', and according to the organisers, people had travelled from as far away as Suffolk and Scotland for the occasion!

It was a fun night, right from the word go, with dancing to the music so many of us remember from the sixties.

Then, just after 10pm, the moment we had been waiting for! As the haunting sounds of their intro music drifted into the auditorium, out into the spotlight came Mike Pender's Searchers!

Looking youthful, as always, (how does he do it??) Mike led the band out, wearing his customary black suit, with high-button collarless jacket, white shirt, and black tie, and as the opening six notes of "Walk In The Room" brought a great cheer from the crowd, the mood was set for the next 75 minutes!

All the hits were there - "Sweets For My Sweet", "Sugar and Spice", "Goodbye My Love", "Love Potion #9", each one appreciated as much by the younger members of the audience as by those of us who grew up listening to the great sounds of The Searchers, back in the 60s! Always eager to give the fans what they want to hear, Mike also treated us to "Farmer John", which is not a regular feature of the set, but was vociferously requested by someone out in the hall!
