This page provides information regarding the creation of the alt.music.searchers newsgroup dedicated to studying the music and artists of The Searchers.

I would like to propose a newsgroup for the purpose of conducting research and providing a recreational forum for indiviuals with an interest in the 1960's British group "The Searchers." A substantial interest in the music of The Searchers has persisted for nearly 40 years, since the group's formation in the early 1960's. While there are a number of fine websites dedicated to The Searchers, thus far there has been no worldwide forum for fans to discuss the history and music of this most unique rock and roll group that the rivaled the Beatles and has always been a part of the British sound. For this reason, it is only fitting that such a newsgroup take its place among the growing number of newsgroups created by fans dedicated to the pursuit of classic rock and roll. The creation of "alt.music.searchers" would fill the current void while at the same time conforming to the existing and well established alt.music newsgroups. It is considered that there is a sufficient fan bass to support a more specialized discussion and thereby reduce some of the heavy traffic to other more generic newsgroups which are used by fans at the present. The purpose of alt.music.searchers is to provide a forum for persons interested in conducting research and discussion with respect to the history of The Searchers. The newsgroup is interested in all aspects pertaining to this rock group, including: the artists; technical details pertaining to their recordings and instruments; reviews of their live performances; and interviews and press releases.

Justification of Readership:
Research of current newsgroups has revealed a growing body of interest in The Searchers with more than an adequate numnber of posts made to more than two dozen general newsgroups. The formation of this specialized group would reduce the traffic of a number of heavily burdened newsgroups including, but not limited to, rec.music.rock-r+b.1950s, 60s and 70s. It would also provide for a more central forum to replace the wide scatter of posts made to multiple newsgroups at the present time.
