Re: Very nice early '68 4001 at Willie's Guitars
Hey everybody, are all of the older 60's Rick basses prone to high action with the bridges bottomed out? In my experience I have worked on a several 60's Rick basses and on all of them the bridge was adjusted all the way down. Some had their saddles ground down as well. I have even seen where the w...

Re: Reproduction Pre-1974 Aluminum Tailpiece / Bridge
I'm in... As John Fay suggested, the ability to lower the action to a greater degree would be helpful. Moreover, the sand cast bridge sometimes sits on the 3 tailpiece screw heads that may raise it ever so slightly impeding the ability for it to rest fully on the floor of the tailpiece. yes, when t...

Re: Did anyone else ever daydream-up something like this?
I remember imagining a configuration like this ( forgive the crude mockup ) when I was a 17 year old kid coming up with all sorts of "dream customizations" while holding my brand new "First Rick"! Am I the only one to have ever thought about gluing two treble-side wings to a Ric...

how can a piece of plastic shield a pickup? just curious....bassduke49 wrote:According to RIC CEO John Hall, the plated plastic cover provides some shielding to the otherwise wide-open pickup.

Re: The CORRECT McCartney Conversion...
I don't understand a few things about the construction methods on the C64. first, why not route the pickup cavities AFTER gluing the body wings? I mean, that's the way they used to do it when the RM1999 was made, correct? certainly was true through the 70's and 80's. secondly, why route all the wood...

those better not be "high tension" flatwounds, or the neck might fall off.

I agree with $2500. would love to see some pictures of it.sloop_john_b wrote:I would up it to $2500 max, but no more. Dale is a fine guitar builder, but it's a copy.

Re: Couple more bass amps might bite the dust . . .
regarding SWR, in my opinion the brand was floundering heavily when Fender gave them a life line - yes, life line. they would have been out of business long ago if that hadn't happened. I own a four SWR amps, two pre Fender, and two Post Fender, they all are great. Problem is SWR just lost it's mark...

Re: The CORRECT McCartney Conversion...
And yet, people put modern tension strings on these instruments and expect them to accommodate this.. I hope some of you can chime in here, as I have only been playing bass since 1981 - were bass strings really THAT low of tension back then? really? of course there are many more manufacturers and c...

Re: The CORRECT McCartney Conversion...
There is this generally held view when it comes to the quality of products of yesteryear that older is better with regard to craftsmanship, performance and materials. While it is no feather in my cap, I am old enough to remember the quality and performance of older gear the first time around. In fa...

Re: The CORRECT McCartney Conversion...
sorry to dig this up again, but I'm just getting to this thread - strings voiding any bass or guitar's warranty is a heaping load. that's called "design flaw", straight up.
love this project by the way, great job Mark!

Re: The CORRECT McCartney Conversion...
Mark, Good to see this project is moving forward nicely!! I take it the strings have been up to pitch since the last installment and the neck angle is holding nicely?? I've been wondering how this has been going. How does the photographic MACCA headstock dimensions compare to your 1964 RM 1999? I'd...

I always wondered that myself, and that always turned me off to set neck 4000's.

Re: McCartney's fretless Rick??
it has dot markers - so if it does have frets, would that make it a custom job, or an "S" model?
