Rickenbacker bass necks
I have been reading the forum and planning ahead. Thinking what would be my next Rick and leaning toward a 4003. I like the smaller necks and from what I have gathered the 80's were slightly thinner. Is this true of the seventy's, and when did they change the dimensions? Any tips on reasons to focus on certain years would be appreciated.

Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
they seem to flip back and forth in thickness. my current '70 and belated 2 '73 basses had thin necks. my buddy's '74 has a thick neck . my belated '75 had a thin neck and my current '75 has a thin neck. my other buddy's 2009 4003 has a thick neck. my 'belated '79 and '81 had thin necks. carver of the week ??? menonite with a spoke shave ?
Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
My 74 has a thicker than usual neck as well. However it's really stable and plays very slick!BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS wrote:they seem to flip back and forth in thickness. my current '70 and belated 2 '73 basses had thin necks. my buddy's '74 has a thick neck . my belated '75 had a thin neck and my current '75 has a thin neck. my other buddy's 2009 4003 has a thick neck. my 'belated '79 and '81 had thin necks. carver of the week ??? menonite with a spoke shave ?

Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
yep, my buddy's '74 plays really nice and stable, just not used to the thicker neck as all mine were thin. my '68 is like holding a ruler in your hand. check that girth thread.
Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
I'm no expert, but the new two piece necks have a thinner profile as well. My 2010 4003 is very nice and reminds me of some 4001 and v63s that I've played.
Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
Just yesterday I bought a '75 4001. I also have a 2k5 4003. The difference in the necks is substantial The 4001 is so much "quicker"
Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
With regards to the recent 4003 necks is there any obvious way of telling (without seeing the bass in the flesh) what neck you're going to get? Just been looking at a 2008 and can't tell which neck it has. It's Mapleglo if that helps in terms of obvious visual signs.

Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
From what I have heard and experienced with my 4003 made in Jan. 2010, the neck are nice and thin and that seems to be the consensus from folks who have 4003's made in 2010.
Re: Rickenbacker bass necks
Hi,
First post . I've had a 4003 from 2008, the neck was very thick. Last week I ordered a 4003 from 2010, so i'm very curious about the neck thickness, I'm looking for a more thin neck than the 2008 4003. I'll let you know what the difference is when I receive the bass.
Regards,
Jasper
