I have played close to a dozen 4004s now, mostly Ciis, and as far as the stock ones go with the factory spec setup this video review by CME is one of the most accurate I have come across... not that there are that many to choose from. It's not the overly dark-sounding creature many people claim, but it can certainly be a thump-in-the-night (check out some of the neck pickup selections); yet there is still a real grind/clank in there (which drives me nuts, but it is cherished a Ric hallmark for many players). Plus, cool Sleep riffs. Posting for those who haven't gotten to try one of these yet.
Note, I think the bass could sound *very* different with changes to strings and setup. But this video nails the factory setup.

Re: 4004 video review
If I hadn't already known and loved the full potential of tones from the 4004, the tones on that CME video would definitely NOT sell me on them.
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: 4004 video review
The audio on the two videos need to be morphed together to really get a true representation of the tone of a 4004Cii.
