Are the Beatles still popular and relevent?
As a big music fan, I still think the Beatles are a pinnacle of popular music. But are the Beatles still popular and relevant today? Especially with the younger generation who will pass the music forward.

Re: Are the Beatles still popular and relevent?
Whilst I appreciate the significance of their contribution to modern music, I have to admit that I don't find their music that appealing.
It may be something that happens with age as I have found music that my parents listened to more appealing as I have aged.

Really though, why should young people care about a pop group that broke up nearly 50 years ago? It would be like expecting the same kids who were captivated watching Ed Sullivan in 1964 to revere popular music from 1911. Absurd!jps wrote:How sad.
Sure the Beatles were talented songwriters that contributed immensely to the genre and history of pop music, but that doesn't make them relevant to kids in 2016.

I think young people in general,... Not so much. Like high numbers basically said why should they. Young people who play instruments,... Probably a lot more so.

"John Legend" - spot on!
Re: Are the Beatles still popular and relevent?
Because the music was so good, and still is, I think we will see a continuance of good Beatles covers by modern artists, and I also think that once the Beatles, or Apple, decides to open up the commercial floodgates, allowing more use of their material and images in advertising, interest could reingnite. Not to any extent like in the past, but there are still legs left.

Did you find your grandparent's music relevant? Most kids I encounter don't know much about the Beatles but there is a lot of respect and an enthusiasm to learn about them. The ones who actually play and have an interest in history usually have some knowledge, but they're probably not going to know "I'll Follow the Sun." There are always a few who are totally into them, Dylan, Stones, Jimi, The Who, Aretha, etc. and the social culture that existed back in the day. You're gonna have thinkers and doers in every generation.
They always love the story about Dylan getting the Ringo and the rest of 'em high for the first time!

Catch 'em early! Young kids like to hear the Beatles around the house. They also seem to go for the Yellow Submarine DVD. Pretty soon they hit puberty and it's all over. The memories linger though. All You Need is Love.
