Weak bridge pup output on a 4001

I have a 76 4001 that has very little volume from the bridge pup. The neck pup works great, but the bridge output is about 1/4 of the neck. Any ideas as to what I should begin with?

Well, like I said elsewhere, that low an output from the treble pu on your 4001 can only mean that a rewind is in order. The treble-pass capacitor does reduce output from the treble pickup all right, but certainly not down to as low as 1/4 of the neck pickup. Maybe I should send you one of my specials... Or would you rather have me rewinding your defective pickup? Take your pick.

I have an early 80s 4001 in my possession, and I would say the bridge pick-up volume is about 1/2 that of the neck pick-up.

Easiest way to know for sure if the pickup is good or not is to get a multimeter and unsolder the two wires from your bridge pickup and test them for resistance (ohms) on the meter. If you have at least 7k its ok, but if it is below that, then part of the coil is shorted and it needs a rewind.
