RETURN OF BOTV

Post by royclough »

Going to give this a go again but with a slightly different format initially

Two versions, same song, just tell which you prefer version 1 or 2

Next week another two versions of same song then following a head to head of the two winners.

Here's first two versions, you know how to play them by now.

If (as in best BOTV tradition) you want an open voting (and not a "closed" one, directly to you personally):
I enjoyed v. 1 the most. A livey, Caribbean feel to it, slightly ethnic!

[quote="captsandwich"]You left out the definitive version.

Well if you read the "blurb" that version may well be next week, in the other semi-final.

But on second thoughts no point in you were waiting - it isn't.

Heh-heh. Technically, it doesn't fit in with the requirements of this section.

Roy, I'm getting a "File link not valid" message when I click on either of the song links.

I'm not a fan, but I preferred version 2, probably because I'm a traditionalist... for the same reason, I can't say I liked the Ramones' version...
BUT - because I'm not that much of a traditionalist, I commend to any and all of you, David Lindley's ULTIMATE version of this song, complete with a wonderful minor-key surf guitar instrumental break (on the album "Very Greasy" by El Rayo X).

Roy: I enjoyed both versions but as to my preference at this juncture I am going with version 2. Two very different recordings with different style and feeling conveyed. I am not sure if you wish us to keep our personal views or comments quiet until the final vote.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Quite difficult choice, vastly different style and time period to each, however due to my age and tastes it's got to be version 2. I am afraid I listened to only seconds of the filmed cover version (definitive?), I found no musical merit whatsoever. I began to feel unwell and turned it off!!

No Peter feel free to comment, I do not name who the versions are by, simply to try to avoid perhaps pre-conceived views and also to try and ensure those who wish to take part actually listen to a bit of the clip.

Sometime I have found on theis BOTV people have been surprised on some who the artist/s are.

Sheena/Kris

As you have now accessed files Sheena I assume the link is working.

I'm going to buck the trend and say version 1. Version two is a little too clean in comparison.

Misread the instructions (geez, you're a prickly bunch  )

Of the 2 offerings, I prefer #1. The second is a little too polished, imo. I like the rawness of the first.
