easy 430 double guard mod

Post by kiramdear »

Hey all,

Just showin' off my morning's work on a top guard for the 430. I fashioned it lovingly from a scrap of black plexi and made some little foam spacers, found the perfect 1/4" longer screws and set her up.

Here's the before:

Here's the new addition:

I think it dresses up the design a little. Could also be wanting to wear the "R" tailpiece along those lines. What do you think?

Looks great with the guard, Kira! :D

My 2 cents........ leave the Bigsby on.

Hmmm, that's two for Bigsby, zero for "R". The guard looks like it grew there. :)

Thanks, Paul. Sounds unanimous so far. Far be it from me to fly in the face of popular opinion. The Bigsby stays. 'Cause really, if there ever was a Rick model made for a Bigsby, the 430 is it. That was one of my first thoughts when I saw it. OK.

Thanks, everybody. I am pleased with the new guard in any case. That's a winner idea. (Whew! I got a million of 'em, a few are actually good).

Four for the Bigsby and just in passing what a great job on the guard Kira. :D

Thanks, Brian. I'm surprised that I didn't mess it up at all, no gouges, and it lines up perfectly. I don't think Pickguardian could have done better. I have to look for some oval head screws though because these sit a little proud. and some hamburger bun O-rings.

Five for the Bigsby.

I'd also vote for the silver topped regular knobs.

p.s. The guard looks fab but get some zymol on it, it'll shine like a mutha!

Thanks, Rob. I had wondered how the silver knobs would look on it. Now I'm going to have to try it. I can't swap with the ones off my 320, though, because I wouldn't have a fifth for it.

Actually I considered Tele knobs for it too. That may look even better.

OK, OK, I'm beginning to get the idea.

What's wrong with the knobs? Are they stock?

I have never seen a Rick with those knobs, so AFAIK, they are not original.
