NGD -- Gretsch!
NGD -- Gretsch!
New Gear Day! Figured I'd share this one.
Bought a long-awaited Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins. I really wanted a '62-'64 model because of the earlier features (horseshoe headstock inlay, slightly better quality etc), and wanted one with the right color and no binding rot etc. I've been looking for the right one for about a year now.
Found one, and at a great price.
I'm the third owner, and it's always been in the southern California area. Came with tons of original case candy---the original warranty certificate, care manuals, brochures, and even a set of Gretsch 'thin man" strings in all original packaging and case.
The tuners were changed to Grovers a couple days after it was purchased new, so the old tuners (mint!) were included.
This thing sounds really cool. Nice chunky neck, and plays so differently from all my other hollowbody guitars-- Rics, Gibson etc. Lovin it.

Sweet. Congrats Collin. That is one beautiful guitar.

Re: NGD -- Gretsch!
Very cool Collin. One of my fave Gretschs. Was this the one Don was selling?
Re: NGD -- Gretsch!
Thanks guys---it's so similar, yet so different. Very cool.
ps, Jim---nice avatar! Stern, yet fiercly patriotic---I like.
Thanks, nah---the one Don had was a '66 or later version, and I'm glad I didn't buy that one (it was nice, but not what I was looking for).
The history with all the case candy stuff was pretty cool. It's obvious the old owner really cherished the thing.

Nice, and a double bonus for no binding rot. That's getting harder and harder to find.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!

Thanks, well----the binding isn't perfect, has some slight cracking here and there, but definitely no crumbling pieces or sections "jumping ship"Danotron wrote:Nice, and a double bonus for no binding rot. That's getting harder and harder to find.
