I think adding one's own touches to the already existing arrangement is pretty cool.

To each his own, of course, but i think it makes him look like a '50s spy.

I guess it all depends on one's purpose. If I am going out to hear a Byrds tribute band, I'm gonna want to hear the songs as I know them, with the correct parts, vocal and instrumental. I dont care if they dress the part or not, but I'm not much interested in hearing Byrds material where the players ...

Yeah, that's Cros on the intro barring the E(now D) and A strings, doing the decending line behind McGuinn. He loved that drone-y stuff. Me too. Almost hypnotic.

I'm kinda getting in on this late, but I'm assuming everyone knows Crosby played TTT w/ the low E dropped down to D.

Herco picks have (or had) a perforated edge for better grip. I used to turn them around and use that part of the pick for a better 'biting' sound.

Peter, I'll choose my words carefully if you will. You're seriously jumping to conclusions when you accuse me of not caring about music history. I would venture to say I probably know as much or more about music history from the 30s and 40s, as well as the 60s than many of your posters here, but ...

Heck, it'd only take a couple of months for Ringo to grow it out enough for bangs. Their hair really wasnt that long in '64. And for this purpose, it wouldnt really matter if he was balding in the back (assuming you mean the upper portion). Yes, I know Paul did it 27 years ago, but I mean in the ...

PAUL & RINGO IN EARLY BEATLES COSTUMES?

I've recently harbored a silly desire to see Paul and Ringo (once more just for fun) assume their 1964 appearance, perhaps for a photo shoot or for a charity event. You know, comb their hair down and wear the suits and boots. Ringo'd have to shave his beard. I wonder just how much they'd still look ...

Whatever. I stand by my original post. The Byrds came out when I was 12, and NONE of my friends cared a rats a*s about Pete Seeger or the Rhymney lyrics. We dug the fresh sound of the Rick 12, the haircuts, and the harmonies. AND the fact that all the kids I knew dug them for the same reason.

Budrocket- The song might as well have been in japanese for all the meaning one gets from just listening to the lyrics. Using word pictures to evoke an emotion or message (a la Dylan) is fine, but I personally dont enjoy a song if the lyrics are just riddles.

True, you have a point. After re-reading my entry, I suppose it's not much weirder than some of Dylan's lyrics. But Dylan's ambiguity at least conjures word pictures. This just seems so strange, considering it's something of a narrative.

I think he was thinking 'What will I do with the ca$h?'

I think the producers might've taken it seriously, but I dont think Bill did.
