Re: Don't see this every day
Just my two pennies worth. Certainly worth more than that! :D Good points. I was rather unartful with my words there. Just seems that up to maybe early 90's there was an occasional surprise like a fretless 8 string. Or those RCA models (that double neck 4004 Ci and 650? is to die for! At least for ...

Re: Don't see this every day
I'm surprised that no fretless 4004 has turned up yet. Woody Cross defretted one of his 4004's, not that that "counts" in this case. Oh, and the neck on my custom fretless was based mostly on my Laredo, so it's sorta like kinda a 4004FL (and also like a J bass and also like a Musi...

Re: NBD
Perhaps fortunately, it took a year and a half for the bass to finally arrive, so I had time to save up some money. 15 years ago I ordered a 650 Dakota and was told it would it would take 6 months or so, and I figured I had the time to save up. Instead it arrived 2 weeks later and nearly broke me! ...

eternal string questions
Actually I have specifics...but I do have to qualify this with saying I've found after owning a RIC bass for 35 year, keeping close to the RIC specification for bass strings (45-55-75-105) really does help the playability of the basses... The 1975 4001 has GHS Brite Flats on it...I like it. I have a...

Re: The Hipshot Company
I have a Hipshot A bridge on my custom...the only gripe is that some of the edges seems sharp. But I never play that close to the bridge so it's not a big deal.
As others have said, kudos for their customer service!

Re: My Fireglo 4004 Laredo
pickups are now in series What do the 2 volumes do now? I don't think it's possible to have separate volumes on PUPs in series...essentially the 2 PUP are now one. I can imagine the sound is very deep. Umph indeed! I put the P/J PUPs on an old Ibanez in series and it roars! Gorgeous Lared...

Re: Vintage 4001 String Spacing at Nut
I measured a lot of basses getting my custom built, and both my Ricks (75 4001, 2004 Laredo) have a 7/16" string spacing at the nut, the same as my bud's 99 P bass and 91 Stingray.

Re: My First Rick Experience
Well, you could always make me an offer! :D That's a beauty! <Checks pockets> Will you take $8.37? Welcome to the RRF! Somewhat sad story, but keep looking, maybe horse trade if you have some other good basses...a new 4003s is about $1300 - that's s pretty strong deal in my eyes. The vint...

Sorry for not being quick with that Lee
The sales monkey said the original owner had for a few weeks. It did look dead-mint.

Played a 2015 Laredo (Briefly)
I saw this at the Clearwater Sam Ash a few months back, but I had recently cut a finger so could not play it. That was the first sighting I've had of a 4004 model in a store, and I finally got a chance to pick it up for a few minutes the other day. It was a bit different from my 2004 model, and I pl...

Re: Wiring Diagram for 4004 VVT mod. please!
It is the J bass wiring if you want the HB1's to be what they are. They should come with the 2 halfs already connected, so you'd have a hot and ground. Here's the RIC schematic for the HB1 http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19521-HB1%20Wiring.pdf Black and clear are supposed to be wired together, leav...
