Greg, were you in Old Town Music this week? I thought I saw someone with a Meteors shirt, which stuck out to me. I'm one of the techs there, stop in some time!

Possibly tube noise, but also cap charge/discharge noise. Without a doubt I would replace the filter cap cans, as there is no way they are still good. This is a reliability / performance / safety issue.

John, I have to agree. Entwistle has been my idol since childhood, there is no one else. But that video did nothing for me. Bob, I had the same problem with my '72 4000. If I remember, I ended up getting one from Mike Parks. Of course, the shape will be slightly wrong (the corners more rounded than on the original) but it will work, at least until you luck out and find an original!

That makes sense. Someone was kind enough to post that schematic earlier; I was just trying to do some detective work and try to figure out how much (if any) of my wiring is original. Thanks much Paul!

Hi Folks,

Obviously I'm coming to this late in the game, but I was just looking inside my Combo 400 and trying to figure out what the toggle switch is for.

As with the Combo 450 pictured earlier, the ground (shield) from the pickup runs through one pole of the switch, and the hot wire runs ...

I agree with Ted. I have a '72 and a '73, and I tend to sacrifice a little gain for more room (I'm also a hard finger player). Both basses have screw-tops, and I never adjust them, though it doesn't sound as if you hurt anything.

Relative pickup strength really seems to be on a case-by-case basis ...

Stanley Clarke uses rubbing alcohol, though he admits it's probably not great for the guitar.
