Me too. Now, I'll have to buy the cd just to read the book.fireglo wrote:I'd love to see what the text says about the Rickenbacker bass in the booklet.

Yeah, that looks like a White Album photo. John had a beard in the Abbey Road photo's I've seen.

Re: Early Azure 4001s...
I remember seeing a 68 4001 in Azureglo advertised for sale at San Diego Guitar over 10 years ago. I saw the ad in a vintage guitar mag. I didn't see the bass in person and didn't even see pics. I remember calling on it to see if it was still for sale but it was sold. :( They also had a 66 4001 in M...

Re: Any Pics of Pauls Psychedelic Ric Bass
From different photos it seems he first striped it down to maple, and had the zero fret and white nut installed. At some later time for some reason sanded it more and changed the contour. Btw, had a fast look through some magazines from ‘70s/’80s, and found a photo of Paul with the Ric before the p...

Re: 1961 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass
WOW! I always wondered if they actually did make any pre - 63 4001's in the style of the older 4000's. That's incredible.

Re: ANY (ROCK BAND) BEATLES SONG. ISOLATED TRACKS!
Let's take a break on bass talks (if anyone cares to listen to this), and talk about vocals. All the vocals are performed well, the best lead singers being John and Paul. George works, and his vocals fit his songs. However, in "Don't Let Me Down", a song that was supposed to be done live ...

Re: ANY (ROCK BAND) BEATLES SONG. ISOLATED TRACKS!
Octupus's Garden sound like a Rick to me. Listening to the Let It Be tracks that we know are Hofner, I want You She's So Heavy has the same sound and was actually recorded right after the roof top concert. Octupus's Garden sounds similar to Something which is a different bass sound than the LIB trac...

Re: ANY (ROCK BAND) BEATLES SONG. ISOLATED TRACKS!
It sounds a lot like the chunky jazz bass, or what has been considered to be the jazz bass, on the White Album. Did McCartney play bass on You Never Give Me Your Money? I'm pretty sure Harrison played the bass part on Carry That Weight, so it would be possible he played the Fender VI on it. It's ha...

Re: ANY (ROCK BAND) BEATLES SONG. ISOLATED TRACKS!
The bass on things like "You Never Give Me Your Money" is the best sounding bass on most of these tracks and, if it's the old Fender Jazz, then it's a better sounding bass than the old RIC. I hate to admit it because the truth can be painful. Ouch! BTW, thanks for posting all these tracks...

Re: So, how many would like to see a '68 Reissue with all the
I had a 69 4001 that looked identical to that. Beautiful bass but a 60's Rick 4001 should have a horseshoe and that horseshoe should have a big surround. That's just the way it is. I think it even says so in the Bible. Hmmmm...So basically what you're saying is that I should be able to get th...

Re: One For the Lefty History Books?
This has got to be the "holy grail" of vintage lefty Ric basses...correct? It'll be interesting to see how the auction ends. Someone here should nab it!!! Tony: The thing about these basses is that you, me or anyone else can count the known examples on one hand, LOL...they are not too har...

I'd love to see a V68 but with a horseshoe and the big surround. I love the way that looks... pumpkinVomit.jpg This one looks much better! http://www.rickresource.com/register/viewitem.php?id=3721&bl=%2Fregister%2Findex.php%3Fsearch%3Dtrue%26model%3D39%26strings%3D0%26finish%3D0%26country%3D%26...

I'd love to see a V68 but with a horseshoe and the big surround. I love the way that looks. I realize that you could just buy a 4003 and upgrade it. That is at least a very good option. I was never crazy about the early 4000's, no offense to any owners out there. I like my Ric basses w/ 2 pickups.

Re: Sun King
The Jazz had flatwounds. On a few of the isolated bass tracks that recently came out, there is quite noticeable string squeak, which would unmistakably be from a roundwound string. I figured it had to be the Jazz. Flatwounds still have some string noise. From my experience w/ my mid-late sixties ja...
