Regarding pup choice..different strokes for different folks. For that clean sparkle that we love for surf and rockabilly, you need a lower output single coil..it can be a stock pup if you're happy with that go no further or..you can try the Fender custom shop 50's or 60's which are wonderful for sur...

Jason Lollar has his "blackface" pups that really sparkle and are worth considering. I would agree with John when it comes to vintage pieces. I personally have no problem with taking a current issue guitar and swapping out pups, bridges etc with the hope of ending up with a better instrume...

Soundwise I like the AC-15 reissue with the blue bulldog speaker...nice chime....reverb seemed a bit thin.. I took one apart to do some work and thought the build quality was maybe not so good. I think most any el-34 powered amp will give you that tone. The bright channel on the blackface Fender amp...
